The Minnesota Golden Gopher football commits continue to shine this fall.

Jeff Jones of Minneapolis Washburn rushed for two touchdowns, caught two TD scores, had a kickoff return for a touchdown and threw the game-winning halfback option pass in the Millers' 48-42 win over Bloomington Kennedy Saturday. The Millers will face Apple Valley at home Friday for the section title.

Jones, who is a top candidate for Minnesota's Mr. Football, now has an amazing 44 touchdowns this season. He has 34 rushing scores, eight touchdown receptions and two kickoff return scores.

Defensive end Andrew Stelter led Class AAAAA #1 Owatonna to a 49-20 win over Austin Saturday. The Huskies will face Rochester Mayo Friday in the Section 1 title game. They defeated the Spartans 41-14 in the season opener.

Owatonna was runner-up to Totino-Grace in the Class AAAAA Prep Bowl last season. However, Totino-Grace has moved up to Class 6A.

Tight end Gaelin Elmore of Somerset helped lead them to a 51-20 win over Northland Pines Friday in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs. They face 5-3 Prescott, a team that they beat 30-0 earlier this season.

Defensive tackle Steven Richardson of Mt Carmel helped lead the Caravan to a 59-13 win over Leo in the regular season finale. The defending Class 8A champions will face Benet in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs.

Linebacker Everett Williams has led Mansfield Legacy to a 7-1 start after beating Arlington Seguin 44-41. They face 3-5 Mansfield Summit this week.

The Gophers most recent commit Brandon Lingen of Wayzata helped lead the Trojans to a 35-7 win over Hopkins in the first round of the 6AAAAAA section playoffs. They will face 7-2 Totino-Grace, the defending Class 5A champions who moved up this season.

Center Connor Mayes of Van Alstyne saw his team fall to 4-4 after a 23-21 loss to Pottsboro. The Panthers face 3-5 Howe Friday.

Athletic quarterback Dimonic McKinzy saw the Bulldogs fall to 3-5 after losing to Lawrence Free State 81-42. They face 3-5 Leavenworth Friday. McKinzy has completed 131 of 259 passes for 2182 yards with 24 touchdowns and twelve interceptions. He has 74 carries for 487 yards and eight touchdowns.

Minnesota, despite landing eight quality commitments, ranks last in verbals in the Big Ten as the other eleven have gotten off to a great start on the recruiting trails. The eleven teams have a combined 161 commitments.

Ohio State and Wisconsin leads the way with 18 commitments each. The Badgers landed two commitments this past weekend, including Grafton tight end Beau Benzschawel, who de-committed from Syracuse and will play for Wisconsin, where his father played.

Michigan State has 16 verbals, while Iowa, Michigan and Penn State have 15 commitments. Indiana, which has landed three Ohio products this month and Iowa have 14 commits each

Nebraska and Northwestern has 13 verbals each. and Purdue has ten.

Future Big Ten teams are doing their best to "Keep up with the Jones" as Rutgers has an amazing 24 commitment to date and Maryland has twelve.

Ten players from Scout's updated Top 100 list have committed to Big Ten schools. Ohio State has six commits among the top 100, the most of any school. Michigan has three and Minnesota has the other top 100 commit in Jeff Jones, who is ranked #88.

Ohio State's recruiting class is ranked sixth in the country by Scout. Michigan is 13th and Wisconsin State is 26th. Rutgers is ranked 19th. Minnesota is tied for 67th.

Ohio State's recruiting class is ranked third in the country by Rivals. Michigan is 17th and Wisconsin is 28th. Rutgers is ranked 22nd.

ESPN has Michigan's class as the top in the big Ten as they are ranked sixth. Ohio State is ranked tenth in the country. Penn State is third in the Big Ten, according to ESPN and is 25th. Rutgers is ranked 18th.
