per Chip:

Mitch Leidner grew up a little Saturday. He also won’t have to hear people tell him how terrible he played this week, which is always nice.

The narrative changed, if only for one game, as the Gophers quarterback showed poise when the situation absolutely demanded it.

Leidner played like a winner in crunch time.

He wasn’t perfect. Or always on target. He nearly threw a game-ending interception that would have changed the entire tone of this column and brought him another helping of criticism.

And let’s be honest, the opposition was Ohio, not Ohio State. The Gophers shouldn’t need a drive in the final 2½ minutes to squeak out a homecoming victory against a MAC school.

But that was their reality thanks to a sloppy and error-filled performance that raised even more doubt about the Gophers entering Big Ten play.

Mitch in a nutshell. And that tone will change here and there.

Most Star Trib writers really blow. Gotta be one of the worst newspapers in the United States.

My "reality" is the tone of the column isn't "different." It nearly changed, but from this excerpt "let's be honest," it didn't. The sloppy writing performances and editorial decisions continue week after week at the strib, no matter who the opponent. Maybe the pressure of inevitable death of the newspaper industry is casting a dark pall on those hoping to hang onto their cushy gigs. A fifth grader can write a more insightful column and post it to a bigger audience on the internet.

As do dozens and dozens of QBs every week. Winning QBs. An "almost" interception is not an interception. Ever. Nor is an "almost" great play. Ever. What happens actually happens.

The "what if" game is only used by the strib to help suggest the most negative view. If it was fair and unbiased reporting they'd have to counter with "Williams near TD in a signature win over TCU." lol
