Bubble Watch

Yeah - as others have mentioned, we should pull for OSU to beat IL, regardless of who we think would be the preferred opponent should MN reach the final tomorrow.

Illinois (19-13 | 11-8) RPI: 72 | SOS: 39 | - Illinois staved off a late rally by Wisconsin to beat the Badgers for a second time this season and vault into a semifinal Saturday with Ohio State. Despite losing 5 of 7, the Illini are now 3-3 vs. Top 25 RPI teams and 5-8 vs. the top 50 (6-9 vs. Top 100). Those are the best quality ”win” numbers among the remaining bubble teams. Illinois is 6-4 in true road games (1-5 on neutral courts). Key non-conference wins over Vanderbilt and at Clemson will help. A win Saturday over Ohio State should punch the Illini’s ticket.

Minnesota (20-12 | 11-9) RPI: 68 | SOS: 54 | – Gophers upset Michigan State late Friday and are certainly in the mix. Minnesota has also beaten Ohio State and Wisconsin at home, and beat Butler early in Anaheim. Of course, the Gophers also lost at Indiana and were swept by Michigan. They did win at Illinois (the team’s only matchup), which could help. Overall, Minnesota is 2-3 vs. Top 25 RPI teams and 4-6 vs the Top 50 (5-8 vs. Top 100). They are, however, 3-7 in true road games. Up next is Purdue. It could get real interesting if the Gophers and Illini both pull off upsets again.
