Gophers to Honor Nagurski Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium
Saturday will be Bronko Nagurski Day at the University of Minnesota and TCF Bank Stadium. The event is being held in conjunction with the Big Ten Network naming Nagurski as one of its Big Ten Icons.
Nagurski came in No. 21 on the network’s list of the top 50 personalities in the history of the Big Ten Conference.
Numerous Nagurski family members – including six of Bronko’s children and 18 of his grandchildren – will be present and be on the field for a presentation during the game. Each of the Nagurski family members present will be wearing Bronko Nagurski jerseys.
Outside the stadium, fans can pose for a photo with a six-foot Bronko Nagurski bobblehead statue that will be on display. The famous, historic plow that is part of the legend of Bronko Nagurski will be on display, as well.
The Governor’s Office has also proclaimed Sept. 25 to be Bronko Nagurski Day in the State of Minnesota. The family will be presented with the official proclamation as part of the festivities.
Saturday’s game is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Victory Walk will take place at 5:30 p.m. The Gophers will be dropped off on Oak Street in front of Mariucci Arena and make their way into the stadium near Gate A.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance at Saturday’s game will receive a commemorative button, which is one of a series of seven for each of the Gophers’ 2010 home games. In addition, a fireworks show is planned for halftime of Saturday’s game.
