Big Ten: bowl season's big winner

yesss, we are back.

'Don't call it a comeback, we've been here for years' --The Big Ten Conference

The Big Ten was never as down as the media conspiracy claimed it was. What was lost in the rush to pan the Big Ten for its bowl performances were a few things.

1) In the Capital One and Outback Bowls the Big Ten actually has a winning record against the SEC. This bowl pits upper tier teams rendering it a good standard for comparison between the conferences.

2) the Big Ten's tendency to 'play up' in Bowl games because the Big Ten sent 2 teams to BCS games 9 out of 12 years, more than any other conference. Often Big Ten teams played opponents who finished considerably higher in their own conference pecking order.

1) Any team from any conference would have lost to Pete Carroll's USC teams in a Rose Bowl that functions as a home game in everything but name for the Trojans. You think the 2004 LSU so-called National Champions could have marched into Pasadena and beaten the Trojans? There's a reason USC still finished 1st in the AP poll that year. Add to that the years where Ohio State was in the National Title game and USC got to play the 2nd best Big Ten team in a home game.

After a great 2010 Big Ten non-conference season and Bowl season is capped off with an Ohio State National Title the Big Ten will not lack in any way for credibility. Then, when Mizzou joins the Big Ten the 2011 Big Ten West Title will be wide open for an athletic Minnesota team led by dynamic 2nd year starter MQ Gray.

What do you mean, the media is always right. right?

haha, no. My point was for even the sports media (which is the least factual of all media) to be willing to defy the BCS, the team it voted for instead would have had to be an unbelievable juggernaut. That USC team was just that.

Always nice when Iowa, Wisconsin and OSU wins can make our season.
