1904 - On the way to its first national title, the only team giving the Gophers a challenge was Nebraska. The Gophers won the game 16-12. They were selected national champions with a 13-0 record.

1934 - The Gophers shut out Nebraska 20-0 on the way to their second national championship. That season, Nebraska finished 6-3 and second in the Big Six.

1935 - This time around the score was closer, but the Gophers still won 12-7. The Gophers continued to win games on the way to a second straight national championship.

1936 - After a win at Washington, the Gophers took on Nebraska at home. One score was all they needed, as Minnesota went on to win 7-0. The Gophers won another title, finishing 7-1.

1940 - The Non-conference season once again included Washington and Nebraska, with Minnesota winning both. The Gophers defeated Nebraska again 13-7, and went on to win their fifth national championship.

1941 - Unlike other seasons, the Gophers played Nebraska later in the season. Similar to other seasons, the Gophers once again shutout Nebraska, 9-0. Minnesota later won another national title.

1943 - In this season, No. 9 Minnesota took down Nebraska with ease, winning 54-0

1945 - The Gophers had one of their biggest wins in the series against Nebraska with a 61-7 victory.

1960 - The Gophers began their 1960 campaign with a match-up against No. 12 Nebraska. Minnesota ended up winning by double digits, 26-14. The Gophers ended the year with their seventh championship. It would mark the last time Minnesota would beat Nebraska until 2013.

1970 - Beginning their glory years, No. 6 Nebraska defeated Minnesota by a score of 35-10. The Huskers went on to win the Orange Bowl and the AP National Championship.

1971 - For the second year in a row, Nebraska scored 35 points against Minnesota, with a 35-7 win. The Huskers would finish 13-0 with an Orange Bowl win and a national title.

1983 - During their win streak against Minnesota, the Huskers had several blowout wins that made up for their big losses a few decades earlier. Arguably the biggest victory against the Gophers, though, was in 1983, when the Huskers won 84-13. Nebraska would finish the season No. 2, having lost the de facto national championship game against Miami after failing on a two point conversion.

2011 - The Nebraska Cornhuskers joined the Big Ten and continued their win streak against Minnesota continued. While the Gophers were trying to rebuild, the Huskers won 41-14. They finished No. 24 with a Citrus Bowl loss.

2013 - After more than 50 years, the Gophers finally defeated No. 21 Nebraska at home. With playmakers Ra’Shede Hageman and Derrick Engel doing great work, Minnesota would secure the win and finish the season 8-5, their best record since 2003.

2014 - The first half of this match-up didn’t go No. 25 Minnesota’s way, and they trailed 21-7 midway through the game. The Gophers wouldn’t quit, though, and ended up winning 28-24. Quarterback Mitch Lender threw for 135 yards and ran fo 111 more.

Star running back David Cobb had to leave with an injury after 80 yards and a score, so Donnell Kirkwood and Roderick Williams finished the job. The play of the game was on defense, though, as Brian Boddy-Calhoun stripped the bay from a Nebraska player’s hands at the 2 yard line. The Gophers went on to earn their first New Year’s Day bowl berth since winning the 1961 Rose Bowl.

This also marked the first time the $5 Bits of Broken Chair trophy, which originated between the Goldy Gopher twitter account and a parody account, was up for grabs.

2016 - After Minnesota won two in a row, Nebraska did the same in 2015 and 2016. Notably, both teams went on similar journeys, as Minnesota and Nebraska went 5-7 in 2015 but still made bowl games, which they won. Both teams would also finish 2016 at 9-4, with the Gophers winning their bowl game and Nebraska falling short in theirs.

Also of note, the Broken Chair Trophy seemed to “disappear.”

2017 - After many lopsided losses in recent memory, Minnesota flipped the script with a 54-12 win against the Huskers. Rodney Smith took the opening kickoff back 100 yards and Minnesota never looked back.

Meanwhile, thanks to fans, the Chair Trophy was resurrected and is now played for in unofficial fashion, with charity now being raised as part of the process.

2018 - Nebraska snapped a 6 game losing streak in a dominating win against Minnesota, coming away with a 53-28 victory. The Nebraska loss, among others, caused a coaching change, with PJ Fleck replacing Robb Smith with Joe Rossi in the defensive coordinator position. The Gophers went on to win a huge game against Wisconsin and dominated Georgia Tech in the Quick Lane Bowl.

2019 - Minnesota entered the game 5-0 while Nebraska was 4-2. Minnesota dominated the game with their rushing attack, which featured a mix of Rodney Smith, Shannon Brooks and Mohamed Ibrahim. In total, the Gophers had 322 yards on the ground, and won 34-7. Minnesota finished 11-2 with their first New Year’s Day Bowl win since 1961, and their highest ranking, 10, since 1962.

2020 - The Gophers missed two games and came into Lincoln with a depleted roster because of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite missing 33 players, though, the Gophers still won 24-17, with Mohamed Ibrahim running for 108 yards and two scores.

2021 - In the most recent match-up, Minnesota capitalized on Nebraska mistakes to win 30-23. The score was made closer by a late Husker touchdown, as Minnesota led 30-16 with under two minutes to play.

The Brian Boddy-Calhoun play is one of the best in Gopher's history IMO.

You hope a guy can just take the ball in every game, but that's a tall order ... it actually happened there.

That indeed WAS a memorable play.... if I recall, the big gain would have been called back since the receiver went out of bounds and came back in... the strip by Boddy-Calhoun was preferable!

If Phil Nelson wasn’t such a dumbass he could’ve had a better career
