The Gophers played against 5 of the Top 10 defenses in the country this year (per SP+) (WIS, OSU, IOWA, MICH, NEB).

Against Top Ten defenses:
  • CMP: 50%
  • YPA: 4.8
  • TD: 3
  • INT: 5
Against all other defenses:
  • CMP: 55%
  • YPA: 7.4
  • TD: 11
  • INT: 4
^ When playing against 'average' competition, he looked like a completely serviceable, maybe even good, QB (for a Sophomore). Just wanted to give y'all some hope as to what he could grow into...

Can you do a further breakdown of throws that were skip-passed at the receivers feet? Were those less prevalent versus poorer defenses?

Joking aside, not sure your breakdown makes me feel any better. The only difference is against good defenses, his stats are abysmal and against poorer defenses his stats are just merely bad.

The problem is, all those were conference opponents who are not going away.

Even Fleck isn't stupid enough to believe in this hocum.

You have to include drops by receivers. Never seen a receiver group drop so many passes! Maybe some was the way the ball came out of his hand? Don’t know, but they had a stat on the tv about it during the game. Remember, this is on a run first team that doesn’t pass much. Ouch!

Posted this in the other QB thread. AK is not good, even among Gopher QBs. It's hard to fathom people were actually wanting him to start over Morgan last year.

No it isn't. His rating coming out of high school was much higher than Morgan's. You should know by now that some value that more than their lying eyes. He is better in one respect: he has greater potential to pick up significant yards with his feet but he doesn't do it often enough to make that advantage worth it.

We should also note that Morgan was concussed last season and was a bit of a mess for a period of time so Athan replacing Morgan when he did was understandable.

Who has a worse receiving core in the entire Big 10?
