All Things Jashon Cornell Thread: Cornell commits to Ohio St

I am very excited to have Cornell being "tutored" by Notre Dame and Iowa fanatics. Not! I AM glad that it appears that Kill is beginning to overcome the recruiting disadvantages he inherited. Wouldn't it have been great if Kill had been here and recruited Binns? One never knows. Gopher football is headed for great heights. I hope that staff got strong salary increases too.

It appears that Cornell's body type/genetics accommodate extreme muscle growth. He will be a beast!

That is not the body of a D-Tackle. Will be a beast DE/OLB though. Also of note -- apparently cousins with James Onwualu.

He'll be moved to DT because our defensive system demands a penetrating DT to disrupt opposing offenses. Players that excel as penetrating DT's also project well as 3-4 DE's.

True, but I would prefer a 330 pound penetrating DT. Actually several.

it appears that he does have a little bit of a belly so i guess it isn't all muscle

Go Gophers!!

Did I miss something?

Glad he's doing it up front and being honest with the U, good luck to him so long as he goes out of the B1G.

+1. Now he doesn't have to take up 1 minute of the staff's recruting time.

Well, if you read correctly he said that he is down to 15 of those 9. Which means that there are 6 other schools he is still considering that he didn't list.

That said, he isn't coming here. And we really shouldn't lose any sleep over him.

If you think this staff is done recruiting him, I don't think you understand this staff.

Yep, you never stop recruiting a top national guy located in your own backyard, but it would certainly appear like an extreme longshot that he ends up coming here.

I think this is a big misunderstanding. He said on Twitter that the list is just who is showing him a lot of interest. I am not saying we will land him by any means (long shot probably). But I don't think he made a list of a top 9 schools omitting MN.

Ever since he said in a GH interview that he would decide by this summer we had slim to no chance. If it was on signing day he would been able to see us having another season of improvement and 9-10 wins. That definitely helped with Ragnow as he said if we weren't winning he definitely would have written us off along time ago even though he didn't end up coming here.

It always annoyed me that Ragnow talked about winning and then went to Arkansas.

Ragnow got dazzled about OL travelling first class, about having the cavalier treatment. I wonder what will happen if you don't produce. I sure hate to find out what their doghouse is like...

It appears that they scripted a story line for him telling him everything he wants to hear.

So do the Gopher O-linemen.

That stuck out like a sore thumb to me when the interview with Ragnow was posted here about a month before signing day. Bielema is a big fat tub of goo, but he did produce a lot of OLs at Wisconsin and if what he told Ragnow about how he treats his OLs is true, that had to be alluring. I don't begrudge these kids their choices. This ain't the 1950s and the hometown school aura is much dimmer than it was prior to the increasing mobility of our society and the national marketing of the college football product.

Maybe he liked his future teammates? Maybe he liked the weather? Maybe he liked the SEC? Maybe he liked his position coach? Maybe he didn't want to wear a corny t-shirt meant for a first grader when he screwed up?

Maybe not every kid that spurns the Gophers does so because they were "tricked".

Ragnow seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulder.

Maybe so, but he spurned MY school and by doing so spurned me. I don't wish him ill-will, but I do not wish him well either. I do not like Arkansas, mostly because of the slapnut they call their head coach. Ragnow choose them/him over us for whatever reason- don't care. I do care that he spurned us.

Cornell is handling his recruitment the right way if he's hell bent to not stay home.

Ragnow handled his recruitment the exact opposite way.

IMO, it's simply not possible to honestly WANT to play for an asshat like bert.

Maybe he shouldn't screw up then :)

I don't begrudge Fred Ragnow for choosing Arkansas or blame him or anything. I'm just more confused than anything else. Burt is just a complete and total dink. Also, (obviously biased view) - growing up near Minneapolis I would have never played for anyone other than the Gophers no matter how much talent I had. I get that most people don't think this way, it's just confusing and sad when Minneapolis area guys seem to have no loyalty to the hometown team
