"Nebraska has landed a game-changing commitment from quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 signal-caller in the Top247 rankings. Raiola flipped from Georgia after a late charge from the Cornhuskers, he told ESPN on Monday. Raiola becomes the highest-rated recruit in program history.

Raiola had a whirlwind recruitment featuring three commitments and four high schools across the country. He originally committed to Ryan Day and Ohio State in May 2022. After one year, however, he flipped his commitment to Georgia.

Matt Rhule made Raiola a high priority from the the first moment he was hired as Nebraska coach. He is the son of Nebraska consensus All-American Dominic Raiola, whose No. 54 is retired by the program. Dylan's uncle, Donovan Raiola, is the offensive line coach under Rhule at Nebraska and was retained after Scott Frost was fired in 2022. Even after Raiola committed to Georgia, Nebraska stayed in his ear and managed to schedule an official visit.

Raiola moved to state powerhouse Buford High School in Georgia for his senior season in an effort to be closer to the Bulldogs program. He threw for 2,819 yards, 34 touchdowns and just one interception as a senior during an 11-2 campaign that ended in the state quarterfinals. He previously enrolled at high schools in Arizona and Texas. He played for former NFL quarterback Jon Kitna at Burleson (Texas) as a sophomore."

What a time to be alive.

Hopefully this means the entire Big Ten is getting better, a better conference. Not just Michigan and tOSU.

It's interesting news for sure.

Allegedly, when Scottie Frost was still Nebraska head coach, Frost was a little too hungover when Dylan Raiola was supposed to have visit with Nebraska.

Will be interesting to see where he plays football in 2025
Yeah.....seems to have no issue moving around and flipping from one place to another. If he isn't quickly handed the Nebraska starting job he would definitely feel like a strong candidate to hit the portal and go somewhere else.

Clearly a very talented kid but 4 high schools and 3 different college commitments for a kid who hasn't even taken a single college snap yet feels like a lot of drama.

I just don’t understand why people are suddenly pretending that the same objective truth no longer holds:

an 18 yet old, no matter how genetically gifted, still has a ton of maturing that their body and mind go through to do.

18 year olds shouldn’t be playing, let alone be starters.

Have patience. More than zero.

Enjoy being a true freshman, on the scout team, with little to no responsibility. Work out hard in the weight room, build yourself up, cheer on the older guys playing.

Bide your time. Yours will come. Earn it.

These are friggin life skills.

May be a case of him wanting to go anywhere but the "home town" team. The more successful the better. Hence the move to Georgia and tOSU stuff. Wonder if finding out he wasn't gonna start right away and family pressure finally got to him?

I thought the current Georgia QB announced he would be back next season, and then within hours he switched from Georgia to Nebraska.

Probably more fun to play one year at Nebraska than Georgia.

Maybe he will be at Georgia next season?

ESPN:
The Bulldogs on Monday learned that quarterback Carson Beck, who had a 12-1 record in his first season as a starter, will return in 2024 for his senior season.

This. Wants to start and Nebraska told him he would. We’ll see how it works out for them but imagine they’ll have to throw the bank at him if he’s half decent to get him to stay

This would be my guess as well. Feels like a kid that wants to start on Day 1 and Nebraska was probably willing to give him the assurances he needed that he would.

Sims is already in the portal. Will be interesting to see if Purdy and Haarberg stay as well or if they also toss their names into the QB portal with the hundreds of other QBs looking for new homes.

Nebraska chased off OSU transfer Kyle McCord, supposedly by meeting Raiola's demand that he start day one--no QB competition. Not sure how Nebraska recruits a half-decent back-up QB with reasonable game experience in this situation (though, we did manage to find one to back up a one-year QB). Sims is already in the transfer portal. If Chubba Purdy or Haarberg decide to ply their trade elsewhere, Nebraska could go from riches to rags if Raiola gets injured. It's one thing to be able to recruit a 5* QB in virtually every class, so next man up--like Arch Manning at Texas--is pretty darn talented. But recruiting a one-off 5* QB (who demands to start as a true freshman), while a great thing (the Gophers certainly would take such a gift), might have some significant downsides regarding QB depth. In any event, I look forward to the Big Ten getting stronger a cross the board.

It would be interesting to see how many teams went the whole season with their day 1 starter or never needed a backup. I know kids don't want to be backups, but competition is good and provides depth

Who else does Nebraska have to support him in terms of OL and WR talent?

There’s no guarantee that he’ll be good as a freshman

Forget NIL, this kid needs an ego check and PR person.

Glad he's making himself, and the Huskers, easy to dislike. Things like the Bits of Chair are what we have to play for now.

Rumor is this kid is getting $4 million......... I have no idea how much cred this sports doctor has. That's insane if true.
