    Interesting match-up...

University of Kentucky plays at Penn State November 19th. UK by 30? 40? Those Nittany Lions are brave(?) souls inviting the Wildcats.

    KentuckySports on Tubby

Smith happy for Cats Tubby Smith had great seats Saturday night, first row in fact, but they weren't quite as good as the last time Kentucky was in the national semifinals. Smith led the Wildcats to their seventh national title in 1998, the only time during his decade in Lexington the school...

    Oto like Setty

I hope Oto has the game of Trevor Setty at Pikeville College...NAIA champs. Setty, a slender 6-foot-9 forward, hit seven 3-pointers to keep Pikeville in the game when it seemed that Mountain State's inside power might be too much......"I feel like I have a shot that is as pure as any," Setty...

    The last "Journey"

Wow, the last Journey episode was emotional. Senior Day for some of the Big Ten's most outstanding players. Also a big reminder to us that these "kids to men" deal with many important issues outside of basketball. We expect perfection from kids, yet, some may carry heavy emotional burdens...

    Nebraska...

After Nebraska defeated Texas are there still Gopherholers who are snickering about Nebraska joining the Big Ten?

Cousy Award flip-flops on Jordan Taylor

Well deserved by Jordan Taylor. The rest of the article includes some interesting comments.... ....UW coach Bo Ryan, who publicly downplayed Taylor's omission from the list of 10 finalists, is a member of the committee that will help select the winner. ....Ryan had actually recently talked...

    ILL AD comments...

Wow...this came out of the "blue"...uh..."orange" Some excerpts from the article: ....Illinois Athletic Director Ron Guenther said Wednesday he's confident coach Bruce Weber can fix problems in a basketball program that the AD acknowledged isn't living up to expectations. ...And Guenther said...

Let's hear it for a basketball practice facility!

Congratulations for those working hard to build a baseball ballpark. Now, let's hope that we hear good news about the funding progress for a basketball practice facility. http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/115235964.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUjc8LDyiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr

What's the chance for a "state of emergency"?

"Ice coated the roads from Indianapolis to Bloomington on Monday night and a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow was expected to continue into Wednesday. School officials issued a statement saying they were closely monitoring the weather. But if the Gophers and the officials arrived in...

    Play it again, Sam...Armelin starts

I couldn't find the old thread discussing Armelin's future at point guard. Actually, a new thread is warranted because I'm proposing playing point guard by committee. Hoff will bring the ball up the floor with screens from the bigs and Armelin will take over from there. The basis for my...

    Time passages...How is Al?

So it's been less than a week since his foot operation and time passes slowly even though the games keep coming. Any word on Al and his rehab? We did hear the operation went well. ??

    Ah...the zone defense

The Zone defense - It worked so well that we'll see more 2-3 zone than man-to-man the rest of the season. It saves fouls, saves energy (the big guys can play many minutes), and helps the big guys cover the perimeter while still having two big rebounders close by. Keep the hands up and there's...

    Chip at Point Guard

I'd love to see Chip Armelin at point next year. At 6'3'' he has good size, he is quick, and has an uncanny ability to finish at the basket. I hope "point guard" is in his future and he works hard at ball-handing and a 3-point shot. I thought we were going to have a peek at his point guard...

    Al Nolen

39 minutes for AL. He had to be gassed on that last free throw attempt....and maybe the last few minutes! Awesome game, Al! Thanks!

    3 Shooters

I thought we had an interesting line-up with three long-range shooters and two rebounders. Blake at point, Chris and Austin on the wings. Of course, Devoe could take the place of any one. This line-up is a zone-buster if the opposing guards are not Al Nolen-types.
