All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

Looks like Tubby and Pitino are recruiting at a similar level.

Tubby has four 3 star recruits as does Pitino according to rivals...

Well, it's hard to say who has recruited better at this point. Remember that 3 star rating for players is a bit like the R rating for films. It can be given to a movie that is pretty acceptable for an 11 year old although it might have some salty language (like Crimson Tide) or it can be given to a movie that isn't suitable at all for children (like Seven). If we go through the 3 star players in the Big Ten over the last few years, we'll see some who have played at the highest levels and others who have been disappointments.

True this guy (Justin-Jamison) was a NO star JC recruit for Texas Tech but had offers from Oregon, Pittsburg, Florida State and others....

Doug McDermott was a 3 star and is considered one of the best CBB players ever. There's been plenty of 4 and 5 stars that bust and make little impact. On the football side, Johnny Football was a 3 star. I don't care about rankings at all, they're just a number associated with a 17 or 18 year old kid. Who knows how they mature/develop.

Oh my god guys....

How many times can the same things be said????

LEAVE IT ALONE!

I think it would be great fun to Play Texas Tech and Tubby in the first round of the NCAA tournament next year...

I wouldn't mind a home and home with Tubby or a guarenteed game with Monson, but something tells me those things will never happen. Will atleast see Mollinari this year with Nebraska

With some luck, maybe Jabari's transfer will be to the Twolves...

If TT goes to the tourney next year, Tubby should be National Coach of the Year. They lost four of their top five scorers from last year through graduation and transferring. Considering they went 14-18 last season, I think Tubby will need more time to turn that program around. It was such a mess to begin with.

There's some chatter from Xavier fans (and Cincy fans now reacting) that Justin Martin is going to Cincinnati. Seems to be just a rumor right now, but worth noting since Xavier's official spring graduation date is this Friday.

Espn says Xavier gave Martin permission to find a new school about a month ago. If that's true, couldn't Martin announce any day?

Thanks for the update. Hoping somehow Martin to the U comes to fruition. Would be a perfect fit for what the Gophers need, a wing threat. Pretty much the exact same scenario as last year when Gophers could have plugged in Rakeem Buckles at their most glaring need. Maybe this time we'll get a better result.

Cincinnati? Cronin's teams are tough-minded but they play one ugly brand of offensive basketball. Yuck.

Almost every other source reported that he had to wait to complete his coursework for the semester, before he could talk to other teams. I think we would have heard some news on him before this week, if he had permission to contact other teams.

Is it possible for communication to occur between potential suitors and his parents/high school coach/mentor/whomever? Or is that strictly forbidden?

I have no idea, but it seems unlikely that teams would have no idea whether he was interested or not?

Not sure. Try checking with Glen Taylor and Kevin McHale.

Interesting. His recent chest-thumping, "I showed everyone" tweets had made it sound like he was going D1 after all.

Who knows maybe he and Pitino talked and he will be a Gopher some day just not next year...

May 13, Final Grades were due at Xavier today. Commencement is on Saturday. Still radio silence on the Justin Martin front, no additional rumors.

Yes, we all understand that we have no open scholarships at present, but I have a hard time believing we are going to enter the 2014 season with only 5 players covering 3 positions on the court, while we would have 4 power forwards and 3 centers on the roster (with the 13th player being Lofton redshirting).
