Reid Travis Picks Stanford Over U

This is great...who would invite Minnesotans to an announcement if you were going to announce somewhere else? He seems like a total class act so I would be really surprised if it weren't Minnesota. Also, who would shadow business classes if you weren't going to study business? It seems far more like he is so excited to have finally decided and he's having trouble keeping a secret. Only the folks at 247 don't seem to know...or at least 2/3 of them. Big feather in Pitino's cap. Tubby never would have landed any of the top 3.

Well, Rickert did when he originally committed to Arizona, as did Adam Boone. Both eventually ended here though ;)

Pioneer Press: Gophers recruiting: Four-star PF Reid Travis on his decision: “Still flipping back and forth”

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound Travis, who narrowed his list down to Minnesota, Stanford and Duke, is anxious to announce his college choice 3:30 p.m. Friday at his high school.

“I needed to pick a timetable for myself,” he said. “I’m still kind of flipping back and forth, but I’m pretty comfortable that I’ll be able to make a decision Friday.”

When asked if he thought his perimeter game would improve if he became a Gopher, Travis said, “Yeah, definitely. I think Pitino would help me develop that, so when I do step on campus, if I decide here, then I’ll be able to knock it down.”

Go Gophers!!

Tubby never would have landed any of the top 3.

Making ridiculous claims that can't be proven or disproven (and that serve no purpose) is fun!

Tubby would have landed all 3 and they would have signed together on the Williams Arena floor for an ESPNU telecast.

I was right - that WAS fun! Please make more ridiculous Tubby claims so we can do this again!

Tubby Smith got fired in the spring and had to pack his bags for the middle-of-nowhere in Texas and coach a no-name program. That IS fun!! :D

Doesn't change the fact that no one knows what would have happened if he were still coach.

Do I think Tubby would have landed any of the three? No. However, there is no way to know for sure. He could have landed all three theoretically. All I know is that Pitino is our coach, and he has a realistic shot at two, and a very good shot with one of those two.

Didn't each of the Big Three make a comment that they were much more interested in Minnesota with the coaching change? Or at least hint at it?

I think Tubby would have landed one of the big 3, just not sure which one. Nonetheless, I am glad Tubby is gone.

Back to Reid Travis.... 24/7 is at 63% Duke 37% Gophers.... I'm surprised by two things:
1) Duke is still at 63% (I thought the visit to Minnesota's scrimmage last night would've swayed a few more voters - maybe they didn't notice or are lazy in switching picks)
2) Not a single vote for Stanford
Obviously we all know that 24/7 isn't always accurate (see Looney) but still a little surprised at those two things.

Yes. Reid and Rashad both did. Don't believe Tyus did (not that I'm aware of at least). Reid said something like "I liked Minnesota before, but I especially like them now with Pitino." Can't remember what Rashad said, but it was clear that he likes us more with Pitino.

No, not really yet. However, being retired, it is a long line of Saturdays every week. :)

Sucks to be you, I spend my Saturdays with a rake in my hand and my wife nagging me to help her inside.... HATE SATURDAYS!

For what it's worth... now it's 60/40. And i think it's more important to look at the timing of the predictions. There are a ton of Duke predications that are from early September counting against us. MN has 15 of the most recent 19 predications (79%).

Exactly. And even more importantly, 6 or the last 7 predictions for the Gophers (all within the last 24 hours) have come from either national guys or guys that have no affiliation with the Gophers!

Go Gophers!!

Perhaps this is me grasping at straws, but I like that in almost every interview I've read with him he says "here" when referring to the U. It's like he identifies as a Minnesotan.

Crystal Ball at 50/50. More importantly, a Duke Insider just switched his prediction to the U

So if its trending MN's way the polls matter, but when its not people dont know any better...lol...
