Since the Gavitt game matchups have been revealed, I think it is fair to start speculating what the ACC Challenge matchups will be. Since the Gavitt and ACC seem to be correlated based on last year, it would appear that Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers and Wisconsin will for sure be at home, while Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State and Purdue will be on the road.
Of the other BIG teams, Michigan, Penn State, Indiana and Illinois are due a home game, while Michigan State and Nebraska are due a road game. Even though Illinois had a home game last year, they played back to back road games prior to that, so they will likely be at home again.
For the ACC, I will assume that Boston College is going to be left out this year. The ones that are due a home game are Louisville, Virginia, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Notre Dame, Florida State and Wake Forest. The road teams would then be Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Syracuse. Since there is an imbalance here, one of the teams that is due a home game will have to play on the road.
Here are my guesses, taking into account exempt event matchups and trying to avoid rematches whenever possible:
BIG home games:
NC State at Illinois
Duke at Indiana
Syracuse at Maryland
North Carolina at Michigan
Pittsburgh at Northwestern
Virginia Tech at Rutgers
Louisville at Wisconsin
BIG road games:
Iowa at Notre Dame
Michigan State at Virginia
Minnesota at Georgia Tech
Nebraska at Clemson
Ohio State at Miami
Penn State at Wake Forest
Purdue at Florida State
