Crazy to have two “greatest games” from the same season and it’s a season that was 7-5

Really wish we could see more games from the 90s and 2000s. Seems like BTN always shows the same ones.
Some ideas:
  • 1990 vs Iowa
  • 1993 vs Wisconsin
  • 1999 vs Iowa
  • 2000 vs Ohio State at the Shoe
  • 2001 vs Wisconsin
  • 2002 vs Arkansas, Music City Bowl
  • 2003 vs Wisconsin
  • 2003 vs Oregon, Sun Bowl
  • 2004 vs Alabama, Music City Bowl
  • 2006 vs Iowa
  • 2009 vs Air Force, TCF Bank Stadium opener
  • 2009 vs Michigan State, the Halloween shootout

This one replayed a couple times this summer. I've got in on the DVR now.

A few others just popped up on my guide

10/6 9am BTN
tOSU from 11/15/14. A loss but a fun game in the cold snow.

10/7 10am BTN
@Michigan from 9/27/14. Pretty sure this is the Michigan beat down. Should get played more often!

10/7 11am BTN
Neb from 2013

10/7 12pm BTN
@Indiana 2013

10/7 1pm BTN
Purdue from 10/18/14

What about Illinois 1996? Seems BTN has taken that one off the rotation....

The 2005 Purdue game doesn't seem like one that gets replayed a whole lot.

Great win! Have seen that replayed on BTN. It also showed how far the broadcasts have came.
One of the greatest Gopher wins I witnessed. I didn't want to leave after that win and probably would still sitting up in section 9 if they hadn't torn the old brick house down.

It has never been broadcast. I think you are thinking of the 1981 OSU game.
That OSU game was another great one but OSU was rated 18th when we beat them. Michigan was rated #1 in '77 at the time.

Recorded and watched the '05 Michigan game. That was fun to watch. It is striking at how much a difference the game was 15 years ago. WR's getting hammered going over the middle, how much you could beat up the QB (and not get a flag), lowering the helmet to hit. It really is a different game.

Just had this conversation with a friend the other day the change in the game and even view point of hits that were once celebrated now viewed as dirty.

This game in particular just before half MN wr got lit up going up for a catch, todays game it's flag for hitting a defenseless WR.

I was at this game. Was in the endzone close to this, and saw this coming from a mile away. This would get a flag thrown immediately.

Nothing to this afternoon and watched last years MN/IA game.
That loss kept MN out of the Rose Bowl.
Fleck cost MN what would have been the winning TD by running onto the field when Johnson was hit in a dead ball situation but time had not been called.
The IA penalty would have had MN close to the goal line but Fleck's penalty off set the IA penalty and IA got the ball.
Put in a missed field goal and a missed PAT and there goes the Rose Bowl.

Or would have it been more leading with the helmet.

Wrong, the penalty cost us 15 yards, but not possession of the ball.

While fleck shouldn’t have run on the field...it is amazing how you can post with absolutely no idea what you’re talking about

How so?
Offsetting penalties because Fleck wanted to be seen when there should have only been one against IA deep in IA territory and the Gophers did not score.

Read this.

And if I remember correctly, it was widely viewed (even by other refs) this ref was being a bit overzealous by giving a penalty to Fleck.

It was a dead ball penalty, after Johnson dropped the pass. So the technical order of events were:
1. Dropped Pass on 4th down.
2. Iowa gains possession of the ball due to turnover on downs
3. Iowa unsportsmanlike penalty, results in a 15 yard penalty on Iowa's 1st down, placing them at the 7 yardline.
4. Fleck's unsportsmanlike penalty, offsets the previous penalty, 1st down Iowa, at the 22 yardline.

If it hadn't been a deadball penalty, then yes Fleck running onto the field would have cost us a 1st down but we would have replayed the 4th down from the same spot and not lost the ball.

You are 100% correct if what you describe would’ve been offsetting penalties during the play. But they weren’t and wouldn’t have been.
