Is food good or bad? Should one eat lots of food or none?
In Apr 2013 when Trump said that China was laughing at us, the USD was worth 6.20197 yuan.

Last week, when Trump complained the Fed was hurting us and China was devaluing its currency, the dollar was worth 7.04532 yuan.

What exactly is the range inside of which China is neither laughing at us or hurting our exports?

Somewhere in the range where we are now collecting somewhere between 50 and 100 billion in tariffs on products they make until they get their act together. They are not laughing at us that is for sure and we will be exporting more in the future because more of our products will be made here.

The current range can't be right. Trump was just complaining that the dollar was too strong last week.

Well then, let's just let China continue to cheat on us in trade. I mean if Big Business is complaining then Trump has to be wrong!

Let me ask you a few questions in order to get perspective on you:

1. Are you in favor of a carbon tax ?
2. Would you like to see more or less regulation on Big Pharma?
3. Do you think we should pay more taxes or less?
4. Would you like to see a higher federal minimum wage?

So you're saying that by deferring to big business and delaying or eliminating tariffs, Trump is letting China cheat us?

No Trump is not deferring to Big Business, Trump is a main street guy. Answer the questions and I'll tell you why.

Nothing like labeling one of your appointees the enemy.

Also worth noting that the dollar is worth less relative to the Euro than when Trump took office. It's very similar to where it was against the pound.

Trump and bga1 on the Fed and the economy:

This is the WORST ECONOMY IN HISTORY. Also: The Fed's policy is too loose! Interest rates are too low! They're increasing their balance sheet too much!
This is the BEST ECONOMY IN HISTORY. Also: The Fed's policy is too tight! Interest rates are too high! They're not increasing the balance sheet enough!

Trump is wrong. And so is the Fed and so are people from both parties. What the Fed did in 2009 is irreversible without considerable pain. We're on the Japan model. We had the chance to follow the Swedish model but choked.
