Gab might be the beneficiary. Their site has been down periodically all day due to volume of traffic.

This is crazy. I feel like Manchin is all that stands in the way of very serious conflict in our country.

Ah. So banning Parler means this could never happen again and there will be no other effects. Excellent. Glad this simple move can put this ugly chapter to bed.
No one said that....

I would say more but Amazons letter makes it pretty clear what Parlers problem is.

This is a very interesting podcast series that I listened to recently: https://blog.google/inside-google/infrastructure/where-the-internet-lives-new-podcast/

It is produced by Google and about their history of building their own data centers/warehouses that service and support their own online technologies that they provide to the public.

But the point I want to make is: Parler hasn't done anything of this sort. Rather, they paid Amazon to use their data centers and associated services. They have no right to them, they're private infrastructure.

If they want to build their own data centers to service their own platform, go for it.

Hate speech, which in my (lay) opinion should include speech that is untruthful and reasonably seems intended to incite hatred, should not be covered by 1A.

That's my opinion.

I'm sure that opinion doesn't jive with the current, actual law.

Parler's problem is that they don't own their own data centers.

If the right wants to allow the public to have a platform to say the kinds of things that were being said on Parler, assuming the law does and still will protect that type of speech, then they'll have to build their own data centers and make that infrastructure investment.

No way around that.

Deuce wants Amazon's private servers to be nationalized so that Parler can still post their hate speech and their insurrection plans without business decisions getting in the way. Thinks we should privatize roads to offset the difference.

Generally yes, agree.
However, the appeal of Parler is not to plot terrorist attacks. You are all probably unaware, but the past few years have seen a steady stream of conservative type accounts banned for absolutely nothing. Parody accounts banned, for example. And a blatant double standard. That’s fine, Twitter can do whatever it wants. Anyone on the right would prefer not to give business to leftist activists who hate them. Opportunity exists for 75 million to use a competitor. And now we see big tech circling the wagons. Also fine (although you all would be sobbing). Another opportunity for competition.

Twitter should have a competitor.

Parler is pretty much a clone. It doesn't really offer any innovation, that I'm aware of, and I don't think it pretends to either? I guess don't have a problem with that. When a new gas station opens up down the street from the only one in town, it probably looks pretty much like that one.

All of Parler's data has been "hacked" and leaked since Twilio cut ties with them. Will be very interesting to see how much of the content was hate speech. I'm sure people are crunching the data.

It is much, much, MUCH worse than that.

Over 70 terabytes of info was downloaded and archived (about 99.9% of the data). It includes raw metadata. They had an easy backdoor to become a "moderator" to the site and download the entire history...which has been done. There is no erasing or scrubbing this.

Many Parler users submitted an image of the front and back of their drivers license to prove they were citizens. Also Social Security numbers. How do you think all those people got added to the "no-fly" list so quickly?

They also had all the geotagging enabled, so the FBI will know every Parler user that was at the capitol. As if the pics of Rep Laruen Boebert didn't do enough (she also tweeted out location info for Pelosi).

Now I'm not saying Twitter and other social media platforms are filled with 100% stable citizens. But God damn. Why would you want to kill college professors? Or anyone really. But college professors specifically. Like why?

I see now WalkAway, of all things, has also been banned. Mrs. Rand Paul talks about all the social media that is encouraging violence on her husband after he received 6 broken ribs and a damaged lung. NYT and Philadelphia Inquirer fired editors for allowing an article discouraging looting. Of course the silence from the left regarding violence as cities burned this summer.

As we have seen even on gh, when libs cant argue facts regarding economy, immigration, race, foreign policy, media bias, they just move on. Facts/stats are irrelevant. Posted below are 2 libs who interview larry elder. They cant counter larry's use of stats, so at the 7:22 mark one of the interviewers actually tells larry he uses statistics too much.

With apologies to the uighurs and hong kong, i actually agree with lebron's statement that it is like we are living in 2 different countries. In my mind the best solution would be to give way more power to the states. Then at least people would have an opportunity to move to a place where they could be happy if they want. Would reduce the temperature greatly i would think.

They indoctrinate students with liberal, progressive brainwashing.

You know, with stats and chemistry, and the like.

There’s no such thing as hate speech.
