The Gophers received a commitment from China Spring, Texas outside linebacker D’Marion Alexander. Alexander, a three-star recruit, held offers from Kansas, TCU, Texas Tech and others, according to 24/7 Sports.

It will be fun to watch Alexander develop in Minnesota’s system. At 6-foot-5, 215 pounds, he has excellent length and will continue to add weight. He originally played safety and wide receiver, but moved to outside linebacker last season. When considering his athletic profile and length, there is plenty of upside for a player with his skills. The coaching staff can explore developing him into a pass rusher or using him as an outside linebacker. He has the range and athleticism, so adding strength is the next step for his skill set.

Here’s a look at his film:

I think Baylor offered him when Rhule was there, right? If so, that's also an important note on Alexander.

Nice! Row the boat! Highlights shows that he can be patient, stays in his lane, & will indeed get his nose in there to make a solid tackle.

slow down Fleck, the NFL draft is tomorrow night, and Fleck is going to have this class filled in no time.

What the hell are we going to talk about for football?

per Megan:

The Gophers added an eighth commitment in the month of April in defensive end D'Marion Alexander.

The China Spring, Texas, native announced his decision Wednesday on Twitter. The three-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com, had offers from programs such as Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU and Arizona State.

Alexander is 6-5, 215 pounds and a product of China Spring High School. He is the 13th member of the Gophers 2021 class, which already ranks fifth in the nation and second in the Big Ten conference at this early stage with four four-star recruits.

Go Gophers!!

Hard to tell without having seen him play, but Alexander's specs (6-5, 215) look a lot like Coughlin's (6-4,220) coming out of high school. Wonder if the staff envisions a similar role in the defense for Alexander.

I think that's a good guess. 247sports has him listed an outside linebacker in his main profile, but it has us recruiting him as weakside defensive end in the offers section. Daniel House and Megan are split on it as well.

Did you happen to hear what Jim Harbaugh said?
Yes, but I already knew he was one of the smarter coaches in the Big 10, and smarter than many gopher hole posters.......so what Harbaugh said didn't really impress me!

I'm more than willing to talk simple science in a thread when needed, and correct the more mishaps who don't understand science. It's not the same as talking football, though.

More like Boye Mafe. Coughlin was much more productive and had much better film as a jr than Alexander but Mafe's jr year film is more similar. Both had mostly basic tackles and few TFL's or sacks but you occasionally saw the athleticism in pursuit.

I was only talking physical specs and what that might mean for his future position.

IMO, not the most impressive highlight video. That defense as a whole looked porous. I'll trust the coaches on this one, but definitely looks like a project.

I like him. Does a great job on the angles, has nice size and pretty good speed. Add 20 pounds of muscle, improve his footwork and shave a bit of his 40 and he can be a nice player.

He has things you can't teach...I trust the coaches to teach him the things they can. I also imagine he is a high motor kid, good grades, strong culture and fits the program.

If his listed height and weight of 6'5" 215 is correct, that screams project. One of those kids who will need a few years in the S&C program but has the potential to be a beast once he is physically ready.

Like Boyd, he falls in the group of guys that look like great depth pickups in the back part of this class who would have been up near the top of our classes not that long ago.

Yeah, looks like his team wasn't particularly good. 4-8 last year and they had like 5 games where they allowed 40+. He could be a project, which I think is fine considering the depth chart at DE and OLB right now.
