Not a bad idea. The metro area is a political disaster that sucks the rest of the state down with it.

Since this proposal has zero point zero chance of passing, I think an interesting discussion - which also has probably the same chance of passing - is the following:

what about city-states or urban/metro-states?

Even in solidly blue states .... the rural folks are as red as anyone. And even in solidly red states, the urban folks are as blue as anyone in the country.

The great divide in this country as a much urban vs rural as anything else.

And if it somehow comes to pass, Washington DC would be a 100% valid example of a city-state.

So .... how about this.

- Take the 49 largest urban areas (by population) other than Wash DC, + Wash DC gives you 50 urban-states
- With then the 50 current states, minus those 50 urban areas.
- Everyone gets 1 senator - or if that would break it, then each urban-state gets 1 and each state keeps 2

- House stays the same, other than very strict requirements on drawing districts

What I hope is the biggest thing people learn during this discussion is that contrary to their arguments, the tax dollars flow out of the Twin Cities metro, not into it.
Jeremy is trolling much harder than flaccid CRG could ever expect to LMAO.

This is a nonsensical proposal to up his profile for an eventual run at a higher office; very smart, as it it so outlandish it will get covered, put him on Noem's radar (just like Palin, her life long ambition isn't to be Gov. of a rural, sparsely populated state) and endure himself to the MN R base.

Rock's comment is accurate and just like NY state and the Fed gov't; we contribute a far larger sum than we receive. Mitch's comments about not "bailing out" NY State for Covid relief was political grandstanding just like Munson's; the difference is Mitch knows that, but many fellers on here don't.

Without elites in Twin Cites & NYC etc..., there aren't rural/outstate geographies.

The metro generates more revenue than the state expends. The rest of the state is the opposite.

No, instead what he's for is that the non-metro areas stop complaining.

If revenue sources are the primary driver of county importance to the State, why even push back on secession? After all, since revenue contribution is so important to urban dwellers, then the only reason they're still part of the State is because of the inherent generosity and goodness from urban taxpayers, right? You should be pining for secession. Get rid of those darn "poor" non-metro counties that suck up your cash.

If the metro area generates more $ than rural then why should the rural area be asked to bail out Mpls?

How is rural being asked to bailout mpls?
Your own chart shows the metro has been bailing out rural for years and years.

They aren't bailing out MPLS, they are leaches who are now refusing to allocate a pittance of state resources for security for the trial. Resources generated by the Metro area. They should susceed to S Dak and live in the austerity they deserve. No more rural welfare cities.

Not rural folks problem city didn't do a good job managing the mostly peacefully protest, allowing buildings to be destroyed, police precinct to be burnt, all the while council president hide in her house behind police protection. Mpls hired the inept they can pay for their ineptitude.

No marijuana. The voters may have approved. But Gov. Kristi is opposed. Because Jesus.
This thread was a giant bat signal to Howie. Kristi Noem hatred is euphoric to him. Never mind progressive MN doesn’t even have marijuana legal. There’s nothing Walz can do about it!
