The freakin twins are playing game one in the ALDS tonight and the Vikings are getting the coverage because they added that guy. Whats his name? #84 think think? oh yeah Randy Moss. How are the Gophers suppose to get any coverage these days? Won't happen. Well not much at least. Im not complaining because the Vikings are my number 1 favorite team. Then the Twins/Gopher football are 2a and b.. But still.

Succesful Vikes = good for the U of M. I do not think it was a coincidence that the Pack and the Badgers had success at the same time.

It will happen. It just is going to take something that hasn't happened in many of our lifetimes... a team that goes into the final weeks of the Big 10 season as a contender for the conference crown, or more.

Through time, this town/state has been conditioned to either NOT care, NOT expect victory, or at the very least... wait for the other shoe to fall if something good does happen. It has been 40 years of confirming the other shoe DOES fall.

Right now yes. Nothing else can be said without lying.
However, if there's a lockout next season in the NFL, I think the Twins could overtake them.
Our beloved college program will remain at the most 3rd, right now we are probably 4th and this offseason we'll be 6th behind the hockey teams and the Goph's Bball squad.
I think we've still got the Twolves whipped though..........

Wait!What?

How is it that the fact that the Pack traded for #4 at roughly the same time when the Badgers decided to commit more resources to their college football team not a coincidence? The two events were mutually exclusive.

To be fair.... Moss, Peterson and Favre are the 3 biggest names in football in Minnesota.

And now the Vikings have all of them playing under one dome.

Is this a serious post from one of the people who believe that the Vikings coming to town was a large contributing factor to the downfall of gopher football?

Absolutely. The affect the Packers have on the Badgers is vastly different than the Vikings have on the Gophers. There are a ton of colleges with NFL teams "nearby." In the same media market is a different story.

We can still win here with the Vikings. It just makes it more difficult than at another place, so we have to make up for this competitive disadvantage by creating a competitive advantage to offset it.

Josh, You are overlooking the arrival of Reggie White. I think you get more kids staying at home for a number of reason and state pride is one of them.

So if we put the new Vikings Stadium in St. Cloud it would totally ease your concerns?

Just out of curiosity, how many media markets are there in WI and MN? I would think there is only one in each state. Or do the Madison papers not cover the packers and the Milwaukee papers not cover the Badgers?

No coincidence at all. There is a perfect correlation to the first Packers Superbowl wins.

1967 - Packers SB Badgers - 0-9-1
1968 - Packers SB Badgers - 0-10
1969 Badgers 3-7

prolonged success builds a fan base and garners attention for a program, regardless of what other activities are happening around it.

You never stop trying to put words in my mouth, do you? People can see how stupid every one of your posts are about this. That's why you never get any responses.

I'll give this to the purple, they have impeccable timing. If you look over the last handful of years, whenever one of the local sports teams looks to be grabbing the spotlight, the purple come in with a major move/announcement to trump the other team.

A Vikings stadium in Saint Cloud would pull in a lot of outside money into Saint Cloud, rather than money that would have been spent there anyway.

how does the Vikings affect the winning of the college team? the Vikings have no affect whatsoever on the coaching, recruiting and the administrations commitment to the football program. the Vikings and Gophers are not in competition for resources. there is no competiitive disadvantge for the football program.

Univserity of Pittsburgh has done just fine with their football program and even won a national championship while the pro team in the town was winning Super Bowls.
