The mob mentality has asst’s being Thorson, Nuness, Damien, Conroy, etc. Consensus was HC would come from group of Muss, Smith, Medved, etc.

Then boom.........BJ shows up!

Any solid info out there other than Nuness interview and past relationship ties?
Damian Johnson isnt an option. I haven’t heard him even mention he is interested in college

haha I'd take anything at this point, I was just starting to look into his history a bit. He may have been in consideration and that scoops page just ran with it who knows. Doogie quote tweeting a page with 1300 followers is funny though.
BJ could've made a call to Hardy, and it never went past that, but someone told someone that the call happened, and the next thing you know ....

Diversity NEEDS to happen. You can’t keep sayings that their is a more qualified white coach available. The only way we will get more black coaches in the college game is to offer them advancement to learn the profession. That is what I like about BJ that he has put in his time as an assistant and deserves the chance. Look at the character of the coach. I also have always liked Damian As a person. I would like to see an experienced head assistant and 80% diversity in his assistants.

But what do I know? Just a farm boy from South Dakota.

This isn't true. BJ drastically cut in line in terms of resume for a head coaching job in the Big 10. It happens and sometimes it works, but no one would be saying BJ paid his dues if he was white. He didn't.

As far as Damian, I am 100% on board with Damian being part of this staff and it has nothing to do with his ethnicity. I am also 100% admitting that Damian does not have the requisite resume for the position but I'd be willing to overlook it because I think there is something special about him.

Exactly you can't hire a "diversity hire" and not let him pick his own staff. That would cause more issues than needed

Diversity hiring has nothing to do with empowering POC/women/(whoever else qualifies). I don't think the powers that be would even see the irony in telling a young AA HC that he can't hire his own staff is insulting. It's THEIR agenda, it's not about empowering these folks.

An arguement could be made that BJ had to wait in line longer, that maybe he should have gotten a mid major HC job sooner (e.g. FIU).

Why do we expect that coaches or any other professionals have to "wait in line" or pay their dues? If they have the skills, they go out and get the position and they make someone hire them what's the issue? We dont live in a society where the "company man" gets any kind of benefits anymore. Which means that anyone is hirable for most jobs at anytime.

I think maybe you should have kept reading my post. I specifically called for the U to hire someone who did NOT pay his dues for the position (Damian Johnson). I think employers should hire exactly who they want whenever they want.

My point about Johnson not paying his dues was in direct response to someone who said (BJ put in his time). No he didn't. And like I said in my post, that's fine. I don't even have a problem with that (see the same post about Damian Johnson).

The argument for hiring BJ and Damian (as an assistant) is NOT that they put in their dues or have the resume. It is "despite NOT having the resume, I still think they are the best person for the job".

If you would have read a little closer the first time, this would have straightened itself out for you.

This is one reason I am ecstatic that we are getting another D1 program in the metro. It's going to provide another potential pipeline in terms of coaching talent who is familiar with recruiting this area. I'd actually like to see one of the D2 programs step for basketball as well, maybe a St. Cloud who just dumped football?

Loyola Maryland record this year (6-11, 1-5), how is this some major coup? Wolfson has lost his mind, his provincialism is out of control. Is there any objective person who would describe getting a HC on staff from a team that went 1-5 in conference as a win?
Hardy tweeted that Twitter Rumors aren't true. Doogie was just tweeting based on another tweet he saw that a Patriot League coach was leaving to MN.

Yes he was reporting the rumor, I get that, but then gave his analysis of getting said coach to be a "win". That analysis is what I was commenting on, not whether it was true, or he was originating that information.

So Johnson got the William and Mary PG and not the HC.

For some reason I think players would know more than fans on his plans for the team.
I'm not so certain about that. Who keeps a secret these days? Perhaps an assistance or two is still coaching in the tournament and Johnson has indicated that but not much more. You would think that if a coach is not in the tournament it would have happened by now.

Thanks for posting. If I were in Lobo land, I'd be more than a bit bummed by these hires. I surprised he couldn't pull in coaches with better resumes. Wonder where Ed ends up?
