Glad he went that high but feel bad for him being stuck in Miami.

The only other Gophers drafted in the top 5 are in Cooperstown.

Stuck in Miami...

I'd be okay with being a starting MLB pitcher living in Miami...

Congrats to Max! First pitcher taken. Gotta imagine this does just adds more ammunition for the staff in recruiting as well.

What's the problem with him being in miami?
Horrible team that doesn't even try to win. They've traded away 23 of their best 25 players in franchise history. The team is really cheap so little opportunity to make money - 2 players with contracts over $5 million. Very few fans, with average attendance only slightly above the St. Paul Saints. Very little chance for national exposure until he gets traded away, even if he becomes one of the best players in the league.

Maybe he's okay with it but he'll play meaningless baseball for a team that will go .500 at best until he gets traded. Hard to imagine he doesn't want to play for a team that's at least trying to make the playoffs.

In case you've missed it, there have been basically the same 8 teams in the playoffs the last 4-5 years. All the other teams play meaningless baseball all year long. Meyer is now a millionaire. I'm pretty sure he'll get past not playing for a winner for a few years. Hell be just like 70 percent of the players in the league now.

Great opportunity to play in bigs ASAP. If he is a future ace his opportunity to get paid will be accelerated by being in Miami.

Congrats to Max. What a great Gopher career he's had. Sad to see it come to an end prematurely.

EXACTLY. The advantage of getting drafted by a sucky team. So proud of Max two-fold (MN kid AND Golden Gopher)!

20 of the 30 teams have been in the playoffs within the past 4 seasons. Most of the other 10 have made big moves to try to get competitive - Machado for San Diego, Harper for Philly, Cano for Seattle, Trout for LA, Keuchel and Grandal for Chicago, Castellanos and Moustakas for Cincinnati, etc. Since 2012, the Marlins haven't done much to improve the team, outside of signing Stanton and trading him before he started earning big money. Currently their entire payroll is not much above what some individual players make a year.

Time will tell, obviously, but I do believe Jeter has a plan that will at least make them competitive in the next few years. We'll see if the rest of the money people in Miami do.

Sam Thoresen signs with the Cubs. Would've been a lot of fun to see him put it all together in his time as a Gopher but never could just get everything to click for an extended period.

Seth Clausen 2021 commit, threw a 1 hitter last night with 10 k's. Hitting 455 for the season. Teams have already walked him 8 times!

CB had them jumping out of the box.

Chase Becker. Minnesota baseball commit 2021, devoted offseason time in the weight room to pack on 15 to 20 pounds and fill out his 6-foot-4 frame.
