Just days after earning Most Valuable Player honors at the North Star College Cup, Minnesota goalie Adam Wilcox has been named the Big Ten Conference’s Third Star of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Wilcox backstopped the top-ranked Gophers to the inaugural tournament title over the weekend, making a total of 76 saves and posting a .938 save percentage.

The South St. Paul, Minn., native recorded a career-high 38 saves and added his third career assist on Friday in Minnesota’s 4-1 in over No. 5 St. Cloud State. He then matched his career high for saves during Saturday’s 4-4 tie with Minnesota Duluth, then stopped both shots he faced in the championship-deciding shootout.

Wilcox, who earned his second conference honor of the season, leads all Big Ten goalies and is tied for second nationally with 17 wins his season – the netminder is also unbeaten in his last 12 games (the longest active unbeaten streak in the nation).

Minnesota has now earned Big Ten honors in each of the team’s 12 weeks of competition this season – Minnesota’s first in the Big Ten Conference. The Gophers have now earned a total of 15 weekly honors from nine different players.

The Gophers return to Big Ten action this weekend with a two-game home series against Michigan State. Friday's 8 p.m. tilt is on the Big Ten Network while Saturday's 7 p.m. finale is on FOX Sports North PLUS. Both games can also be heard live on the 1500 ESPN airwaves.
