Buckeyes Wire first out of the gate:

8. Minnesota

Why the Ranking

If feels like the whole West division is just a pile of inconsistent yuck. Minnesota started off challenged, went through a stretch where you thought the boat was rowing in the right direction, and then lost a game it really needed to win at home this past weekend. The Gophers are another team on the doorstep of bowl-eligibility but we’re just not sure if anyone’s going to answer the knock.

Last Week’s Power Ranking: 8 (⇔ no change)
Last Result: Lost vs. Illinois, 27-26

Next Up … at Purdue

Go Gophers!!

Wolverines Wire chimes in:

7. Minnesota

Minnesota is another team that went down to a team it shouldn’t have, losing to Illinois on Saturday. While the Gophers don’t appear to have much of a solid identity and thus this loss isn’t a complete shock, the anemic offense didn’t exactly complement a defense that allowed nearly 300 yards passing to Luke Altmyer.

Chaos in the West continues!

Go Gophers!!

Saturday Tradition chimes in:

9. Minnesota (5-4)

Last week: vs. Illinois, L 27-26

How? Yes, Illinois’ defense was remarkably tougher once Johnny Newton’s first-half suspension concluded, but how did PJ Fleck manage to lose this one? The short answer is a string of defensive miscues on Illinois’ game-winning drive, but… how?

Go Gophers!!

Not even sure how I’d have it anymore

1) Michigan
2) Ohio state

3) penn state

4) Rutgers
5) Iowa

6) everyone else

4-5 are closer to 14 than 3
