Total Team Stats - including national ranking as of games 11/7/09 – the number in parenthesis is the ranking improvement/decline from the previous week (+ is improvement, - is worse). There are 120 teams included in the statistical rankings. As always, if you see any errors please let me know in this thread or via PM and I’ll make any necessary edits. One quick thought – it has been suggested that this year’s schedule is tougher than last so the stats are tough to compare. First, as the season progresses the Big Ten continues to appear to be more mediocre IMO. Second, while I think most would agree that this year's schedule is marginally more difficult than the '08 campaign, we have not yet played Iowa. Finally, it would stand to reason then that against a lesser opponent (which Illinois should have been) the Gopher stats would improve – maybe even greatly improve. That held true for penalty yardage.

There were unfortunately quite a few categories that continued to slide. If we expect that a better opponent (PSU/OSU as examples) would dramatically decrease the Gopher stats, we should then also expect that lesser opponents (Illinois as an example) would dramatically improve them. Unfortunately the Gophers continue to rank near the bottom of the Big Ten in nearly all major categories. It’s worth noting, however, that their scoring offense ranking improved a great deal this past week as the Gophers are scoring 8.5 points MORE per game in-conference than they did last year!
