During his coaching days, retired Vikings coach Bud Grant, 92, could only have hoped to have an assistant as able as Pat Smith, his life and hunting partner. Hunting near Roseau, Minn., each took a big-bodied 8-point buck with single shots. Bud felled his at 120 yards, while Pat dead-eyed hers at 200 yards.

I go to a lot of the Eden Prairie home football games (partly for the football but also because I have two kids in the marching band). It always makes me smile when I see a 92 year old Bud Grant climbing the steps of the bleachers to assume his spot in the top row just below the press box to watch his son coach. He's had one heckuva life.
