Never thought I would say this, but I was very happy with how many people were getting on their feet for third down.

The old folks in the premium seats seemed to be doing a good job of staying in the game. Was it like this on the other side of the field too?

I was also impressed...I know the 231 gang was up on every third down play that I can remember, and I noticed how often the fans stood on plays like that...It's a good trend!

I agree, it was very nice to see. You have to train people so they do it unconsciously, and I think by the 4th quarter on saturday, the old people around us started to automatically get up on 3rd down even before the crowd started to get loud. Like Pavlov's dog, it was awesome.....

212

Section 212 is pretty much there regarding standing on 3rd downs.

By the end of the first quarter the section was standing on Cal 3rd downs from there on.

We've got some "leaders" below Mrs. Billd and me (we're in Row 24)...some are probably GopherHolers... but for the most part folks are standing because they want to...which is GREAT!

Still have a ways to go on yelling on FIRST, SECOND, and third downs...but progress is being made. Old habits die hard...

Also, no need to resurrect the Bitter End Club. Nothing bitter about watching a Minnesota team play to its ability for 60 minutes...

We ain't Cal YET...but the path is set...

First things first. Beat NU and then Bucky comes to The Bank...can't wait!

Go Gophers! Beat the Wildcats!

Section 212

They stand on third downs but sit down on the rest for those who dont want to stand the whole game. I was impressed.

231 definitely has a loud crew that stays in the game. It's much better than my section in the dome but every fan is now more excited outside than they were in the dome. Great times.

It is good to know that the GopherHole Fan Gestapo is happy with the performance of the older fans at the game.

Late in the game I was told to sit down when cal was up by a touchdown and we needed a stop. It was either first or second down but we were in desperate need to get the ball back and tie. I kindly mentioned it was a 1 touchdown game in the 4th quarter and turned around and proceeded to stay on my feet. Overall though the crowd was much better and old habits do die hard but we are making headway.

Beat NW!

Yep, know exactly what you are talking about. I was unsure why nobody was standing up for this one because we were clearly a stop away from getting a chance to tie it. O well, that was the first 3rd down nobody stood up on. Good performance, much better than first game from the fans. Waaaaaaay better.

Old Folks Syndrome

For good and for bad, we have a lot of older fans. For good, they have stuck with the program. For bad, they sat in a dome for 27 seasons, which is like watching TV.

And they're old. It is a little difficult for a lot of duffers to get up and down repeatedly.

On the other hand, everyone can yell. I suggest that standing is secondary to the noise we can make. Generally, the players on the field don't see you standing, they are focusing on the other team. However, they can hear you yell.

As Pee Wee would say:

"SCREAM REAL LOUD!"

It was great to see everyone standing and how loud it was. Kudos to the student section, I thought they were awesome.

On that note, I was still told to sit down by some older fans again on Saturday. It's one thing if I'm standing by myself in the section but when everyone in front of me is standing and I have to, yet I'm the one who gets yelled at.

Oh well, slowly but surely we're will get there ;)

In section 237 about 1/3 of the fans stood on 3rd downs. Over to my left in sections 238 and 239 about 10 fans stood up. Those sections suck.

I think all the true standing fans should make shirts that have on the back of them "if you can see this and not the game then stand up and yell". Maybe that would help drive the change.

i sit near the top of section 244 and fortunately for me people up there are very willing to get up on the third downs. of course there are a few that dont like it due to advanced age but it's hard to blame them for that. but hey, like other posters have said, there aren't as many people yelling at you to sit down.
in my opinion, the next baby step in the standing up deal will be people getting up on third down without the pa anouncer and loud music telling them to do so. sometimes i wonder if there are people who forgot what down it is. can't wait to see what the atmosphere will be like for the wisconsin game!

In 211, there were definitely a few leading the charge. I noticed that on most third downs, 211 was representing pretty well (just like 212), but 210 was mostly sitting down. Maybe they were all distracted from looking at the one Cal fan in the section and his pornstar-looking bimbo girlfriend.

Every time I stood on 3rd down Cal got the first down. So, I took it as a jinx and quit standing all the time and then we started stopping them. Then Minnesota nice kicked in and the people in front of me quit standing to be polite. I didn't want them to do that. Then I started standing again and we lost. My bad.

I'm in row 8 in 212 and we have some other GopherHolers in row 10 and row 2 and 3. We were ALL up on every Cal 3rd down, it was great! Keep it up! Beat the CATS! and THEN take care of Bucky!

I think Bo needs to consider giving his tickets to another Gopher fan for the next game. It's clear that he can't get the job done for us. We may have to sit him out for the rest of the season.
