Forget about Gophers junior point guard Marcus Carr returning next fall for a senior season. He is playing like a first round NBA draft choice, averaging 29.7 points per game and making clutch shots with none bigger than Monday night’s three pointer to win the game against Loyola Marymount, 67-64. In three nonconference games thus far he has made 54 percent of his field goals and 45 percent of three-pointers.

Meanwhile, long range shooting specialist Gabe Kalscheur has converted less than one percent of his three-point shot attempts. The junior shooting guard is making 28 percent of his field goals.

In three games against mid-major teams (played LM twice), the 3-0 Gophers have just a two rebound edge, 119-117.

Go Gophers!!

I'm in favor of objectivity, but this guy goes out of his way to be a crank. He's a low brow Pat Reusse.

I still wonder if anyone reads his stuff beyond what gets linked here. Hopefully, the "Hole gets a little comp for creating hits for him.

Shama is useless. “I’ve been told there is a possibility that something may happen. It might now. If it does, I’ll tell you what I know but if it doesn’t I’ll tell you I knew it may not because the odds are there but inside source”

Print that and its similar to what he provides.

He gets his article inspiration from this thread!

He put the Kalesheur thread and the Carr thread together and wham!

While this seems premature after playing a couple cupcakes, he is right. This is Carr's last year in a gopher uniform. Hopefully some of the rest of these guys step up and they can make a run.

I won't tell you where, but there's an algebra mistake here
Gabe Kalscheur has converted less than one percent of his three-point shot attempts. The junior shooting guard is making 28 percent of his field goals

I'm guessing it is a reading comprehension issue. Shama looks and sees Gabe listed at 0.083 3P%...and assumes that turns into 0.83%. Which is unforgivable for him to not think "hold on, that means if he made one 3 pointer he has missed over 100 on the season."Screen Shot 2020-12-02 at 2.21.05 PM.png

Yeah, math. Technically should be 8.3 not .083 under 3P% so even that is incorrect.

8.3% is good for a strong beer.

I expect a little bit more from a shooting guard. 80 proof would be nice.

Wow.

But still, it's a bit silly to list the ratio under a label of "%". Why not FGR and 3PR, for ratio?

I got a peek at Sid's will today. He is giving 200K to any player who stays for entire eligibility paid via Bud in small bills. I think he stays.

To get that many shot attempts before getting benched would be a hell of a feat.
Even 1/75 you’re at 1.33%
He's still workin' on it. Let's just say he isn't Michael or Larry so far...

Gabe might be 1-12 from 3 to start the year, but at least he's 17-17 from the freethrow line. He's driving to the hoop more and finishing or getting contact.

Yeah. Gotta keep playing him. Our best team is if he starts hitting 35% from 3

I always enjoy when reporters have zero idea how the NBA draft works.

There is no chance Carr is a 1st round NBA draft pick. And that is perfectly fine. The validation of his accomplishments don't need to be tied to his NBA prospects.

Sort of unrelated but it's something that has annoyed me over the last few years (probably was happening before that but I'm older and more negative/aware now)...Too many media folk these days get way too hung up on what players will eventually be rather than enjoying the college versions of them. And the coverage gets hurt because in many cases, the best prospects on a college team are not the best current players.

YOU COVER COLLEGE BASKETBALL, YOU ARE NOT AN NBA SCOUT OR NBA REPORTER.

Many get annoyed by his schtik but this is what I appreciate about Jon Rothstein.

Great post. Some of the best college players i ever saw were fringe NBA players. They fit their program and team. Butch Lee came to mind. Kyle Guy for UVA fit the college game perfectly and may or may not find a place in the NBA.

I could jack 3's up from home and still hit better than .9%

Yeah, 8.3% starts to get down into "random person picked out of the stands and thrown into the game" territory. Like when NBA players such as Lonzo Ball shoot 40% from the free throw line, and a great number of junior high players can easily do better.

I think Carr's gone after this season. He declared after last season, and came back. I think he'd probably go pro in Europe, if he doesn't get drafted by the NBA after this season. He wants to get paid.

We'll have Mashburn and ______ to shoulder the load next year.

Yeah. Carr may come back for the exact same reason Iowa guy came back

I agree, I hate it when the national media talks about college basketball, and to a lesser extent, FB, only through the lense of the draft with the idea that college bball has no intrinsic value and is only worth watching to see future NBA prospects.
