Purdue has yet to name their defensive coordinator.

But, another position was filled.

Ron English was hired to coach cornerbacks for Purdue this evening.

English is a well liked and well traveled coach. His most recent stop was with Florida, but has been all over the country in a variety of roles.

Starting in 1994, he was a GA for Arizona State, 1996 to 1997 he was a defensive backs coach at San Jose State before returning to Arizona State from 1998 to 2002 coaching DBs. Then, he headed to the midwest, getting a defensive backs job at Michigan, from 2003 to 2005 before being their DC for 2 years under Coach Carr in 2006 and 2007.

He joined the Lousiville staff in 2008, where he and Brohm were both coaches at. After a year there, he spent time as the Eastern Michigan Head Coach from 2009 to 2013.

Coach English took 3 years off and then spent a a year as San Jose State’s DC (2016), the safeties coach for Mississippi State (2017), then from 2018 to 2020, he was the safeties coach for Florida.

Coach English has been all over the country and is a well known and well respected coach in the profession.

Now, he will get to coach cornerbacks at Purdue, where he has a nice pool of talen to choose from.

He will have senior Dedrick Mackey, Junior College Transfer Geovonte’ Howard who decided to come back to Purdue after being in the transfer portal, Iowa transfer D.J. Johnson, two year starter, Cory Trice and some young, talented players in Anthony Rompf, Nyles Beverly and Kadin Smith.

While we are all waiting for the defensive coordinator announcement, you would believe the decision has already been made internally with the hiring of two position coaches in the past two weeks.

So far, the defensive staff looks like this:

Safeties - Anthony Poindexter

Corners - Ron English

LBs - ?

Defensive Line - Mark Hagen

Defensive Coordinator - ?
