*** Official Michigan Post-Game Rant Thread ***

These coaches almost pulled out a victory by pulling out the stops and taking some gambles. We shouldn't forget how fortunate we were to be in a position to win with 19 seconds. We stuffed the run for the most part and put up 26 pts on one of the top defenses in the country. YES, a moral victory.

How many mistakes?

The Mortell fail punt
The roughing the passer that set up their TD
One sided officiating

On the play that started with 19 seconds left-- is it Leidner that changed plays that set everyone in motion or is that part of the original play design?

Looked like it was the play that was called.

I really don't have anything to rant about, but more a couple head scratchers:

1. Why was Mortell benched? Are they sick of him giving up line drives in situations where he can't pin people inside the 20? I know I'm getting sick of them.

2. Why not spike the ball on 1st and goal from the 1 with 19 seconds left?

3. We outplayed them after Ruddock went down. Why not take a chance in OT? We were the better team with Ruddock out.

Regardless, I had a great time at the game and it was a heck of a fight.

Correct. The second to last play (motioning) was called by Limegrover, not Mitch.

OK, so if he really really wanted to run that play with all of that time-consuming pre-play motion, then why didn't he first call a play to spike the ball to stop the clock before running that play?! He could have then run however much pre-play motion he wanted, and no time would have come off the clock, starting on 2nd down with ~18 seconds left. I'd have been just fine with that.

Great game until 19 seconds.

Cleays taking to much heat. He does not call the offensive plays. It was his first game just listening to the offensive play calls. He is NOT going to overrule a offensive call..I liked not calling a timeout before first down save for second but limegrover has have a quick hitter to the RB first down.

Love the gameplan the whole game throwing deep.

Didn't need to use the timeout - there was no real possibility to run out of downs rather than run out of clock, so could have just spiked the ball.

Offsides?

Since we all feel ****ty, can someone start a poll? I'm on Tapatalk:

Which hurts most?

A) Wisconsin, 2003: Take the safety.
B) Michigan, 2003: Is their RB an eligible receiver?
C) Michigan, 2015: 19 seconds of fail.
D) Add your own Gophers heartbreak

E) Texas Tech 2006: Jesus Glen, have you learned ANYTHING?
F) Northwestern 2008: Brewster what are you doing trying to get in FG position when you have a TERRIBLE FG kicker, GO TO OT
G) Iowa 2004 Already in FG position, lets run to the outside and lose 4 yards, then go conservative to set up a 51 yard FG
H) North Carolina State 2000: Lets lose a 24 point lead in a game where NC State literally cannot stop the running game
I) Purdue 2000: Ball at their own 6 yard line down 3 with 19 seconds left, Purdue gets a tying FG and wins in OT

Mich was offsides a good part of the game. It was close, but still a violation.

Lol regarding the Purdue game. So, with 19 seconds left and a TO, we couldn't even get off three plays to make a 1/2-yard. They - even if the officials helped them - got about 55 yards AND a FG off in less than 19 seconds (officially).

Well the finish to Michigan-Minnesota was as big a punch in the gut as I've felt in a while. The grasping of defeat from the jaws of victory despite good intentions pretty much sums up Gopher football during my life time. On any other day I'd have been at the stadium but the need to escort trick or treaters and man the door later on kept me home. I'm glad because the short distance from home to TCF Bank Stadium provided the psychological distance necessary to prevent me from exploding with rage and disappointment. I can't even imagine what it was like walking out of the stadium afterwards. It was bad enough sitting on the couch trying to fathom it all.

My guess is the center moved the ball up a few inches when he grabbed the ball. It happens all the time. You can see the stick in between the refs legs and it appears it is a good 6 inches behind where the front of the ball is.

Not sure what the rule is in those instances though.

Anyone complaining about the decision to sneak it with Mitch is banned from GH because of their ignorance. Has Mitch ever not successfully executed a sneak in his Gopher career? I can't think of one. The odds that we punch it in on that play are 90%. The odds that we win in OT are slightly over 50%, especially given that their QB was gaining confidence and had just moved the ball 50 yards downfield on us for a TD.

Mitch would have thrown for 500 yards with 6 TDs if he had half the time that Michigan's QBs had. Our d-line again failed to significantly put pressure on their QBs.

I was talking to my son about this after the game. It's always easy to remember the heart breaking losses, but we quickly forget the games we were fortunate to win at the end. Just this year we beat Ohio and CSU on plays at the end of the game. Last year we beat Nebraska on BBC's game saving INT, Purdue on a 53 yard Santoso FG, and NW on Myrick's kickoff return for a TD. This is a tough loss, but dramatic finishes go both ways.

I think most people are upset is that should have been the 1st down play. I am upset with Leidner not knowing the clock was running while they were dinking around with the motion

I think it is more the ways we lose at the end. Lots of crazy ways we have lost over the years. It is different if we miss a FG there or Michigan scores late to win.
