Briefly: Junior college transfer Trevor Mbakwe's playing status for this season will be announced Monday, Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi said.
Mbakwe, a 6-8, 240-pound power forward from St. Paul, was charged with felony battery after an alleged April incident in Miami. He has been practicing with the Gophers but hasn't been cleared to play. Minnesota's season opens Nov. 13 against Tennessee Tech at Williams Arena.
It's from the bottom of the greatest player who will ever play PG for the Gophers starting next year.
