Fresh off a career performance leading the Minnesota men’s basketball team to victory, sophomore guard Gabe Kalscheur was selected the Big Ten Conference Co-Player of the Week Monday.
It is the first such award for the Edina, Minn., native, who shared the award with Wisconsin’s D’Mitrik Trice. Kalscheur earned top weekly freshman honors in November 2018 after his previous top career performance.
On Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., Kalscheur poured in 34 points, besting his previous career high by nine points in the 20-point win over Oklahoma State. Kalscheur’s efforts came on 11-of-14 field goal shooting (78.6 percent) including a scorching 7-of-9 performance from beyond the arc (77.8 percent). The seven treys matched his career high and tied for the third most by any Gopher in a single-game. Kalscheur also added three rebounds, one assist and a steal in 33 minutes of action at the BOK Center.
This season, Kalscheur ranks third on the Gophers averaging 13.3 points per game and is the team-leader with 30 3-pointers and 12 steals. His mark of 2.73 treys made per game ranks ninth in the nation and leads all Big Ten players.
Kalscheur and the Gophers return to action Saturday, closing out the non-conference schedule at home hosting FIU at 3 p.m.
