Time to sh!t or get off the pot and head to the window.

I need some last minute inspiration/reinforcement as to why I should/will put down a big fat bet on the beloved Gophers this afternoon.

I just can't help but think the Gophers handle ISU today. Experienced defense, experience of having been in Tempe before, offense with SERIOUSLY something to prove, TEAM with something to prove.

Line is only Gophers -2.5 which I really like. I just can't fathom the Gophers not being able to win by a FG in this one.

Am I wrong?

No you are right. I would bet Gophers if I bothered to bet.

Iowa State, though, is overachieving and going to come out pumped. I don't know what the Gophers will be like- that is kind of the problem with Brewster's teams.

That has been mentioned...

Not sure what the O/U is, but I'd hammer the under.

Last time I checked, it was about 48. Always leery about a few trick plays pumping up the score but I DO like the under as well. I considered a nice two-game parlay (pays almost 3-1), Gophers and the under.

I'm betting the game, just haven't figured out how much just yet. I'm considering a pretty hefty number, just haven't settled on it yet.

I think you're right.

not to be contrary to PH, but the Over is the bet as I've gone over before. I wish I wasn't to CS/broke to put my money where my mouth is. But I think it's the best over bet I've seen for awhile.

Good luck.

All the "experts" are saying the first team to 20 wins. That ususally guarantees a 41-38 shootout.

Don't touch the O/U. Give the 2.5 pts and put a bundle on the Gophs. Be a Gopher High Roller because you are a big Gopher Fan.

That's if betting were legal of course.

Somehow I both agree with you and the experts. I see the Gophers scoring somewhere between 6 and 31 points, and the Cyclones scoring between 7 and 24 points. If I do a simple average, that makes the game 18.5 to 15.5, Gophers win. 20 points should do it for either team. I am much more confident than the average would suggest, for our Gophers. I really think our defense can clamp down their offense, and I would be surprised to see them score more than 20. Our offense should have a lot to prove. If I was betting I would definitely go Gophers and/or under. Therefore, it should be a high-scoring ISU win.

I think the game will play out most similar to the Air Force game. Similar result

Where do you guys bet the game? Is there a reliable internet site?

That would make the total points somewhere between 13 and 55.
I wouldn't touch the O/U

Gambling is never sure-fire. However, the O/U is 48. My guesstimate puts the game somewhere in the 13-55 range. That's 7 points above, and 35 points below the O/U. Looks pretty safe. My overall prediction is 24-13 Gophers - which still leaves an 11 point cushion. Look at the guesses in the pick the score thread. Most of those are under 48. The under is probably the best play in this game.

I can't help you there. I live in Sin City so for me, it's just down the street at the casino.

You guys aren't much frickin' help. Schnoodler, I could have sworn you were saying take the under a week ago. A mixed bag of O/U, who knows. I like the under, although most of these bowl games sure seem to be track meets so far. That scares me a little.

I'm on the way to the book but I'm thinking of a variety of bets that will help hedge the situation a little bit. All of them however, will involve some form of the Gophers winning.

I hate that I'm breaking one of the CARDINAL sins of sports gambling... betting your "home" team. What the hell, it's only money...

Wow... late breaking news....

The casino lines in Vegas have dropped all the way to Gophers by just -1.5, with the O/U at either 48 or 48.5 at the place where I'm going.

That means the late money has been rolling in on ISU. That doesn't make me feel much better about any of it.

I'm going to save my betting money and use it to buy a nice jug of JD...I can't lose that way.
If Gophers win....I will drink myself into oblivion, in the confines of my own home.
If Gophers lose...I will drink myself into oblivion, in the confines of my own home.

Go Gophers!

Happy New Year all!  :drink: :drink: :drink:

Id feel safe with the under as well, but I would take ISU to cover. Cant see the Gophers scoring more than 17pts...

Yeah, it'd be foolish to think that the Gophers would score more than 17 points like they did eight times this year. And of the four times they didn't, three were against very good defenses (Iowa, PSU, OSU).

Friendly schedule

I just checked the ISU schedule and WOW, they managed to play in the Big 12 and avoid playing hardly any of the real heavy hitters in the conference; no Texas, no Texas Tech, no Oklahoma (even though Okie was down without Bradford).

Far as I can tell, they're hanging their hat on a game against Nebraska where NEb turned the ball over 8 times.

I can live with my chances....

Sorry about your loss if you bet on the game. They should have scored more than 17 though...

Lesson learned, yet again...

Sorry about your loss if you bet on the game. They should have scored more than 17 though...

Can't believe I committed the ultimate sin by betting on my team. I feel responsible for the loss.

Any ONE of a number of plays cost the Rodents this game; a f'n hail mary, a missed chip shot FG by Ellestad, not one but TWO turnovers in the red zone...

I can't believe I didn't break something in the house. Rodents cost me an enormous amount of money today, more than I'd care to admit...

At least I had the under right anyway...

This is why I don't bet on games. I'm sure I'd lose constantly.

Ogee, you were in my thoughts during the game

As one who has partaken in the sins of Las Vegas many a time and fallen pray to the cardinal sin of betting on one's "favorite" team I know how much a game last night stings. It must have seen like manna from heaven to see the money line move down to 1.5. I too would have jumped all over that number had I had the chance. FWIW, the under was the right move.

How do you get that back? Bet an equal amount on September 18th on Southern Cal. Right now the O/U on Matt Barkley touchdown passes in that game sits at 3.

Big mistake...

That's why Monday Night Football is always the most bet game of the week, people trying to "get back" what they lost during the weekend.

I don't know if I have the stones to do it but I think a decent way to get some scratch back would be to take Iowa (4-pt dogs to Ga Tech) and the Under, which is a massive 50 points or so. I think Iowa shuts down Ga Tech with a month to prepare. Low scoring game, in my opinion.

Funny thing is, yesterday's Gopher game was the first game I'd bet in a couple years, other than a $20 MNF bet a few weeks ago when I was at the bar watching the game. Plenty of locals in Vegas, like myself, generally stay away from the casinos.

Hopefully I learned a lesson last night because I was not a pleasant person to be around for a few hours afterwards, whether it was the money or the Rodents playing like dung.

Kids.... DON'T BET ON GAMES WITH YOUR FAVORITE TEAM!!!!!

Don't ever use any of my gambling suggestions.

Ogee...I am into sure bets. Cold beer is always a winner. Unfortunately, it all turns to pi$$. :)
