Ibrahim named Big Ten player of the week

If you had told me:
  • Mo Ibrahim would run for a career high yardage total
  • Mo would win Big Ten Player of the Week
  • Gophers 0 penalties
  • Iowa would score 13 points total
I would have bet my house, my life savings, my life on the Gophers winning.

What's particularly impressive about this one:

1) Mo is the first Offensive Player of the Week this season from a losing team; and

2) while I haven't checked this thoroughly, I'd say by eyeballing the winners and their games for the year that this was the lowest scoring game to feature an Offensive Player of the Week.

No game involving a big ten west team this week had either team scoring over 20

Iowa 13
Minnesota 10
Purdue 17
Northwestern 9
Wisconsin 15
Nebraska 14
Michigan 19
Illinois 17

Games not involving big ten west:
Ohio state 43
Maryland 30
Penn state 55
Rutgers 10
Indiana 39
Michigan state 33

Yes, it's almost hard to believe that the loss was true. Even when we play well enough to win we still lose against Iowa these days. These last two were particularly tough to swallow. Some day we'll beat Iowa again and perhaps it will be when we least expect it. Oddly, two of the last three times we beat Iowa were with back to back 3-9 Gopher teams.

Thanks for checking in and pissing on our one ray of sunshine.
Hey now, I've always found that one to be applicable in a number of situations, most of them on the golf course where it was born

Such a weird game - the conference's offensive player of the week was on a losing team of a 13-10 ball game and the conference's defensive player of the game was on the team that faced the conference's offensive player of the week who touched the ball on 40 of the 65 plays.

This made me feel worse than I ready did.
