From what I have seen of the players that Kill has already brought in, they are the best players on this team. Maybe not talent wise, but they try their hardest every play and show much more output than the "skilled" highly rated players Brewster brought in that have terrible attitudes. And the effort and heart is much better than having skill and not giving a sh!t. I have a feeling that within two seasons we will see major improvement alone from the fact that we will have players that want to play. I'm sick of our upperclassmen, they're a bunch of downers and I fully believe they're bringing the team down, with the exception of Gray, Royston and Tinsley.

He has one thing going from. It can't get worse talent wise.

So you are defining the best players as the ones with the best attitudes? Haviland must be a Kill recruit

It doesn't matter who you recruit if you don't insist that they tackle correctly. Break down, get in position, have your head across the front of the body when you tackle ... not behind the back. If you do those things we would be a whole lot better.

Better than the "highly skilled" Da'Jon Mcknight who drops 80% of the passes thrown to him and acts like a pissy little b!tch out on the field.

jones dropped a td with a good attitude.

How are mistakes any better depending on the players perceived attitude. Maybe McKnight acts that way because he is frustrated.

+1
Frustrating as hell. Even when we had guys in good position, they couldn't make a routine tackle.

There is no reason that Gray should not have hit Jones on the numbers on that throw. Jones was wide open and still had to reach and damn near dive to get that ball. He's a true freshman who has also made some athletic catches(USC anyone). He is making freshman mistakes. Unlike McKnight who would catch those types of throws from Weber that he was not catching today, and also seems to be looking for a pass interference call every time he doesn't catch it in traffic which he was doing with ease last year. Frustrated or not you buckle down and give it your all on the next play. The only ones I see doing that are the freshman and a few upper classmen.

Agreed. It looks like when you play NCAA 2012 and you put the aggressive tackling on. Big whiffs and lots of diving at the feet. Not sure whaty that's about.

Talking about players...Matt Garin has no FB IQ or feel for the game. He consistently over runs plays, loses contain and loses track of the ball. It is tough to watch him play DE.

Completely agree, so Gray led him too much because of his attitude? Or does the attitude only affect the performance of McKnight.

No Gray led him too much because he's not a very good passer. When did I say anything about Gray's attitude. McKnight was one example. Do you need more examples?

Well said. One has to be encouraged by the true freshmen on this team. In addition to Jones, Ben Perry and Cedric Thompson were impressive today. They not only have talent, but appear to have fight. I'm a big Marcus Jones fan [the kid is tough and has the right attitude...I loved the reaction to the DB, after the incompletion, which resulted in a personal foul (big deal at that point...the guy was competing), and obviously the kick-off return for a TD], and is the epitome of a Kill recruit. These guys may not have come in as the highest rated recruit, but two years from now, will be some of the best in the B1G. Patience right now is tough, but in two years, with a few more Kill-type recurits in the system, this team will be solid...and tough.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see much prima donna attitude from McKnight today, maybe he took a look in the mirror.

As for Kill's recruiting, I'm behind him, for now at least, he seems to be going after guys who fit his system (Brew never had a system to recruit to) and he's staying away from the high risk/high reward guys that Brewster was willing to gamble on. Time will tell.

Kill and Brew are polar opposites, personality-wise. The upperclassmen, for better or worse (I'll go with worse), are here because of Brew's style and recruiting prowess. Guys that may have responed to Brew's rah-rah attitude are certainly a different breed than those who favor Kill on the living room couch. Jerry needs his type of guys in the system.

McKnight has the same not very good passer, and he has become the whipping boy of this board. If Jones or McKnight drops a ball, its still a incomplete pass. I don't understand how Jones apparent good attitude makes his any less of a mistake.

And I'm in no way attacking Jones, I can't wait to watch him play for four years.

Same old excuses and new lies on this thread. First, the freshmen are not outperforming the upperclassmen. More of the same recruiting excuses are being piled on the board. Today, on a different thread, somebody compared Wisconsin to Minnesota. The composition of players who start are highly similar. Many 2 star guys start for Wisconsin. Many freshmen start for Wisconsin. They are winning and we are not. Why? The difference is the coaching staff and philosophy. Brett is just a better coach (and staff) than our low budget affair. The Wisconsin coaches are simply better tacticians and trainers. Is there any reason to keep apologizing and allowing Kill more and more time to hang himself? The AD needs to pull the contract and start a new search. The U deserves better than a staff that promotes itself as turn-around specialists when there is no evidence that this occurred at a significant university.

A real coach, Lou Hotz, turned around the Gophers in year 1, not year 3 or 4. They were not the most athletic bunch of players. But, he knew how to utilize them from day 1 and he radically altered the manner and style of play. Remember, he talked a lot to. He was a quote machine.

"A lifetime contract for a coach means if you're ahead in the third quarter and moving the ball, they can't fire you."
Lou Holtz

Amen, Lou, amen.

I agree, Thompson looked great today

What quality coach would take this job if Kill got fired after 1 year????

I think that some of our freshman look good for freshman and I don't think that is the "same thing we've always heard".

In Brew's first season, the only guys I remember anyone saying anything positive about were Weber, Decker, Sherels (a bit, we was still at WR), and maybe Willie.

I think a lot of Gopher fans ASSUMED Brew's recruits were going to be good but a lot of them didn't get much PT until last season.

I would say you have never taken over a failing team or company and turned them around...I have fired many employees during a rebuilding project because their attitude was fatalistic or negative. The rebuilding process starts with attitude and desire, which is the foundation that talent flourishes in...show me the most talented person in the world and see how well they perform in a negative and fatalistic environment. I will take over achieving average talent inspired to perform over talented negative thinking prima donnas any day.

OOG, mistake, there might be one or 1 Fr. at Wisc, but they replaced their O-line (where 3-4 went to the NFL) with a 3rd , 4th and 2 5th yr players. Kill is the right guy now, and it WILL take 3-4 yrs. I just hope I'm around to watch you eat crow!
