TAMU and ND should be dropped from all top 25 ballots.

WI, Houston should be dropped from all ballots.

Pitt and Baylor should get less votes.

Fresno State should be off all top 25, as should UCF, NC, SC and AZ.

That is 11 vote getting teams in last week poll Gophs can gain votes from.

Some will vote for App, Marshall, AF, MsState, Oregon State, Auburn, KSU...5 vote getters from last week and two big winners.

I would guess net gain of 4 spots, so 26th.

In week one, Ohio State had the only top 10 win, and it was by a couple of scores. Their reward? They were dropped one place in the rankings.

In week two, Alabama needed a last second field goal to beat an unranked opponent. In addition to that, the internet and college football world are flooded today with a phantom roughing the QB call video that went their way that should have been a safety.

It will be interesting to see what happens to their ranking as a result.

Rankings are stupid. They are particularly stupid early season. But unfortunately they are also important. It sucks to have something stupid yet important like this.

No chance we are in AP top 25 this week In fact, we may not improve at all this week. APP ST and Marshall are going to get a lot of love in this weeks poll. KState won big against SEC opponent. Miss State won against a PAC12 opponent and Air Force won big against PAC12 opponent. They may leap above us.

We most likely go from tie for 30th to 28th

We get way less respect in the coach's poll, tied for 40th. May make a bigger jump in that poll, but still no way in top 25.

Beat Colorado and then we can talk top 25, beat Mich St and we can talk top 20

The reality is Minnesota is a top 20 team, but because it is perceived before the season starts that they aren't because of name brands. A team like Wisconsin and Notre Dame get the benefits of being a more national brand and start the season higher automatically. Teams like Minneosta have always had to do more for longer to even crack the top 25 and get recognized in a national conversation. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

That was one of the worst phantom calls I've ever seen. Even with correcting the horrible non-roughing issue, I'm still trying to figure out how they pretzeled the call into an incomplete pass and not intentional grounding. These weird calls seem to consistently happen in favor of the blue bloods.

Until we beat a legit competitor, we will not be ranked. It should happen this year, and hopefully for a long stretch. But won’t for a few weeks.
Agreed.

If we beat Michigan St, we should get ranked and people should start paying attention.

The strength of these first three opponents is laughable. And that's fine.

At least one AP voter is proving you right: https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf...murphy-week-3-ballot-vs-betting-power-ratings

Brett McMurphy's AP poll includes:

13. Marshall
20. App State
24. Texas (he had them unranked last week)
Unranked: Minnesota, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Iowa

To be fair, he is also the idiot who ranked Nebraska in the preseason.

Maybe voters will get a peep of the Jordan Howden interception and give us our flowers.

34th

How can someone have Marshall 13th?
They beat winless notre dame and an FCS
I get maybe in the 20s but 13th?

The AP poll is out and we dropped 4 places to 34.
KState and Miss State leap above us as did North Carolina, Oregon State, Marshall and App State

No love to the Gophers. If we beat Colorado we will still not be in the top 25

39th in the Coach’s poll

Texas goes from unranked to 21 by losing.

WTF

That doesn't actually bother me. They arguably should have beaten Alabama.....which means they probably are a top 25 team.

And it just goes to show you how little the AP voters really know. The one year that they don't have Texas as a pre-season top 25 team.

Also....we've moved down the AP rankings one spot each week now. #32, #33, #34.

We should be somewhere around 20 if we're 4-0 in 2 weeks and we'll be unranked if we lose one or more of those games. Until then our ranking doesn't mean much.

These perceptions could hurt us later in the season though, the Gophers will likely get a worse bowl than other conference teams with identical records or potentially get passed by worse teams.

If MSU wins next week, the Gophers will be ranked in the 11-14 range after beating MSU.
