I’m sure Sanford knew X’s and O’s as well as anyone. Playbook itself probably hasn’t changed a ton over all years Fleck has been here.
Where Sanford failed us, and appears most offenses he was in charge of, is in play/route calling. Possibly also QB coaching, but we’ll never know that.
Play calling is possibly the most important thing the coordinator does. It takes instinct and raw talent, that you can’t learn. Sanford didn’t have it.
