Gophers Host Michigan March 1 & 2 2024

Snuggerud went from a potential Hobey contender pre season to a disappearing act in the goal column, unfortunately.

Hockey is sometimes weird. Stuff happens one game that is so not what expected. Will find out soon how consistent they can be. The can play great, like Friday.

Um, we're 34 games in. We know they are not consistent.

Gophers men's hockey edged 6-5 by Michigan after rallying to force overtime

Minnesota scored five goals in the third period after giving up three in the first, but Seamus Casey's power-play goal in OT clinched the win for the Wolverines.

The perfect script for the Gophers in their regular-season finale on Saturday would have included a thrilling victory that finished a sweep of Michigan on a night that celebrated the 1974 Minnesota team, which won the program's first NCAA hockey championship 50 years ago.

The Gophers got the thrilling part. They didn't get the victory.

Seamus Casey scored a power-play goal 1:31 into overtime, giving Michigan a 6-5 win over the Gophers, who furiously rallied with a five-goal third period and tied the score 5-5 on Luke Mittelstadt's extra-attacker goal with 1:39 left. Rutger McGroarty had given Michigan a 5-4 lead with 3:24 left..

Great point, as always.

"Will find out soon [future tense] how consistent they can be [future tense but I'll concede past tense]." ;)

Friday: They're going to blow past everyone in the tournament.

Saturday: So glad they may make the tournament.

Boston College lost some games this year too. Nobody can escape the odd fluctuations in hockey.

BC has not even lost a game by two goals outside of empty netters. They are significantly better than the field.
