Sophomore goaltender Amanda Leveille is the Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore goaltender Amanda Leveille earned her fourth WCHA Defensive Player of the Week award of the season this week, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced. Leveille and the Gophers shut out Minnesota Duluth in two 6-0 wins last weekend.

Leveille earned her 12th and 13th shutouts of the season as No. 1 Minnesota swept the Bulldogs last weekend. She combined for 26 saves in the two games against Minnesota Duluth, including holding UMD scoreless on eight power plays (seven shots). Leveille made 16 saves in Friday's 6-0 win before stopping 10-of-10 Bulldog shots in Saturday's 6-0 win.

The Kingston, Ontario, native is now on a three-game shutout streak and is riding 194:37 consecutive shutout minutes over four games, including 14:42 (Wisconsin, Feb. 14), 60:00 (Wisconsin, Feb. 15), 59:57 (UMD, Feb. 21) and 59:58 (UMD, Feb. 22). She has made 57-consecutive saves as well.

Leveille ranks second in the nation with a 1.07 goals against average and third in the nation with a .951 save percentage. She leads the WCHA with a 1.03 goals against average and .953 save percentage in 28 league games. Leveille leads the nation with a .956 winning percentage (32-1-1) and 13 shutouts.

In only her sophomore season, Leveille has already made her mark in the Gopher recordbooks. She currently ranks fourth in career shutouts (16) and seventh in career saves (781). She is sixth in goaltender career wins (35). Leveille's numbers this season put her third with 32 wins in a single season, fourth with 697 saves in a single season, fourth with a 1.07 goals against average, second with a .951 save percentage and second with 13 shutouts in a single season.

Leveille and the Gophers return to Ridder Arena to host St. Cloud State in the first round of the WCHA playoffs this weekend. Puck drop is 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday. If necessary, game three of the best-of-three series will be held at 4:07 p.m. CT Sunday.
