KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- According to various reports, former Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer as emerged as a candidate for the head coaching position at Minnesota.

Rivals.com and The Sporting News have both reported that Fulmer's name is on the list to replace former Gophers' coach Tim Brewster. Brewster was fired two weeks ago.

Fulmer told WVLT's media partner, GoVolsXtra.com, that Minnesota "has great potential, and with it's new facilities it’s a place you could recruit to. I believe it’s a place where you can compete.’’

According to the Web site, Fulmer was vague when asked if he was interested in the position or it the school has contacted him.

Fulmer coached the Vols for 17 years, winning a hundred more football games than he lost (152-52). In 1998, he coached Tennessee to a national championship.

Fulmer currently serves as an analyst for CBS College Sports.
