University of Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck was named one of 22 semifinalists for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, which is presented by the Maxwell Football Club.

Fleck is one of four coaches from the Big Ten on the list and is joined by Tom Allen (Indiana), Ryan Day (Ohio State) and James Franklin (Penn State).

Coach Fleck has led Minnesota to historic heights this season. Minnesota is 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Big Ten with two games left in the regular season. Minnesota has now won nine games in a season nine times in school history (2019, 2016, 2003, 1905, 1904, 1903, 1902, 1901 and 1900).

Minnesota is 6-1 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1967 and has six Big Ten wins for the sixth time ever (2019, 1973, 1967, 1961, 1960, 1940). Minnesota has never won seven Big Ten games in a season. The Gophers are 9-3 in their last 12 B1G games, which leads the West and is behind only 11-1 Ohio State and 10-2 Penn State.

Minnesota is currently ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll, but has been ranked as high as No. 7 this year. The No. 7 ranking was Minnesota's highest ranking in the poll since it was No. 5 on Nov. 19, 1962.

The Gophers are 21-14 overall under head coach P.J. Fleck. Coach Fleck's winning percentage of 60% ranks fourth in school history for anyone who coached more than 30 games and is the best since Bernie Bierman, who last coached at Minnesota in 1950.

Semifinalist voting will begin on Thursday Nov. 21 and close on Sunday, Dec. 8. The finalist round will include the top three coaches as selected in the semifinalist round. Finalist voting will open Dec. 9 and run until Dec. 27. The winner will be announced Dec. 29.

The formal presentation of the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award will take place at the Maxwell Football Club's National Awards Gala on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Go Gophers!!

Well deserved for Fleck, hopefully he can win a few more here and lock up the award.

Good luck to PJ! In the Big Ten Indiana is much more surprising or impressive to me than the Gophers at 9 and 1 so far.
We need these last two regular season games!

Go get it coach. In a way it is wonderful seeing the Gophs and Hoosiers doing well.

IMO, the coach of the year should always go to the National Championship winner.

With credit to Allen the Gophers have had a more impressive run and games. It will probably come down to whether the voters that matter enjoy PJF’s “schtick” as much as the referee at Iowa did.
