Hudson Fasching of the top-ranked Minnesota men’s hockey program currently leads all Big Ten freshman in points (11), goals (five) and plus/minus (+12) and has now been honored by the league for his performance in the Gophers’ split against No. 3/4 Notre Dame over the weekend.

Fasching was named the league’s Third Star of the Week after tallying two goals and an assist against the Irish. After picking up an assist on Minnesota’s lone goal in Friday’s 4-1 loss, Fasching contributed a pair of goals in Saturday’s 5-4 win to salvage a split. The rookie has now tallied a point in each of his first eight collegiate hockey games including three multi-point games.

Five weeks into the 2013-14 college hockey season and the Gophers have already earned six weekly honors from the Big Ten Conference. The team has had at least one honoree in all four weeks of competition (the Gophers were off the week of Nov. 5) and have twice had two of the conference’s three weekly stars.

This week’s honor marks the first of Fasching’s career while Sam Warning earned Big Ten accolades for three-straight weeks to open the season. Kyle Rau and Justin Kloos have each picked up one weekly honor as well.

Minnesota returns to action this weekend at Mariucci Arena against Minnesota State. The series kicks off a six-game, three-week home stand during the month of November with Minnesota Duluth coming to the Twin Cities following this weekend’s series and the Gophers opening up Big Ten play against Wisconsin on Nov. 29-30.

Both of this weekend’s games against the Mavericks will be broadcast on FOX Sports North PLUS while radio broadcasts will be split with Friday’s game on 1500 ESPN and Saturday’s contest on MyTalk 107.1. Both of this weekend’s games will also be available via online stream at BTN2Go.com.

I love Fasching's game. He is a big boy, not afraid to mix it up, he's got lots of skill, and a nose for the net. My new favorite Gopher.
