Merci

Logan Richter should be on there. He had some nice plays last night too.

I didn't have him on the list because he was listed as OG in the recruiting profile.
I added him.

Also made the other updates and color coded those who are gone or out.

Nice write up FTF. Given all that do you think Gophers will be able to stop a nose bleed next year? Looks like yes, but I have not put in the work you have.

I think they will be able to stop a nosebleed by a potential bowl game if we get one. (Bowl rules are odd this year).

PJ says the best teams are player led teams.
We can probably assume our defense is not player-led right now.

I'll add, in the players I still have in a black font, many still have a pretty optimistic bright side.

I think a few from the 2018 class we have a pretty good idea of what they are, but each of them have a potential 3 years left to become veteran leaders for the next few classes.
And we know those who aren't will transfer for better options or retire.

I’ll bet the 2020 LB class yields some players. Hope that the experience they gain in 2020 (like a redshirt year, only you can play) helps development.

With how underwhelming the defense has looked in 2020, and knowing we should have better athletes ready in 2021/2022, I’m expecting PJ to hit the grad transfer market hard in the off-season. If they could pick up an experienced starting LB, it would be huge. Add a DT/DE and S, and it could make a terrible defense into a tolerable one.

Was wondering about him. With our lack of depth he'd have to be pretty bad to not be getting snaps this year.

I don't think you can read into it too much.

1. Coaches might be trying to stay patient with their #1's since there was no spring camp. They might see more upside than fans who just see the games.

2. PJ has said some guys will only play when they are ready. Some freshman are ready right away and some are not ready. This could be physically, mentally, attitude, confidence. Could be a lot of things.

My guess is PJ and Rossi are being very patient so the #1's get more reps considering the short season and many will be leading the defense next year.

PJ will go after grad transfers but I don't know if he will this next year. Maybe one. At most two.
He's got a ton of young guys that he'll want to start playing, especially if the 2021 class stays strong, he will want many of those 2021 players playing in 2022 I would guess, not stuck behind a grad transfer 5th / 6th year senior.

Quite possibly. That’s why I could see him going after a couple one-year guys, instead of his preferred 2-year transfer. With the added year of eligibility, there should be more quality 1-year transfers available this offseason of guys getting a 5/6th year that wouldn’t normally have it left. To use a Fleck-ism, failure is growth. However, this is a results business, and everybody can see how undermanned this D is. PJ obviously knew this, going after a 1-year eligible Tony Fields.

Fleck had 30 days to assemble the 2017 class, so it’s not that surprising that a lot of those guys didn’t pan out.

2018 is a different story and it’s easy to look at that class right now and see why we’re struggling. Hopefully it’s an anomaly.

The good news is the staff believes 2020 was the best class we’ve signed by far. And 2021 looks even better.

The 2017 class has Tanner Morgan , CAB, and Ibrahim... so nothing to sneeze at.
But defensively... yeh. It's a WMU type class.

The losses of Teague and Alex Reigelsperger from that 2018 class both have hurt... Definitely adversely affected the needed depth. Both should/could have been ready to step in this season.

Yes.
This 100%.
This is why I believe the defense is enduring a bit of a "gap" year and we'll be fine going forward.
