College Football Head Coach Salary Rankings

https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/

Pretty interesting list

Coaches of note:

1. Dabo $9.3m
2. Saban $8.8
3. Harbaugh $7.5m
8. Jeff Brohm $6.6m
11. Franklin $5.65m
12. Fitzgerald $5.1m
14. Frost $5m
18. Ferentz $4.8m
22. Ryan Day $4.5m
24. Dantonio $4.4m
25. Chryst $4.1m
29. Lovie Smith $4m
37. PJ Fleck $3.6m
57. Lockesly $2.5m
71. Tom Allen $1.8m (Lowest P5 coach)

Jeff Brohm coming in at 8 was very surprising

Adding $1m to PJ's salary would make us very competitive, would come in at 22 in the country and 6th in the B1G. I mean if NW has $5.1m in its budget for Fitz MN should be able to find a few $$ for PJ

I know there are other factors for coaches' salaries, but I was shocked to see NU has a larger endowment the U.

Why would you be shocked by that? Virtually every private university of consequence has a massive endowment that dwarfs most public universities. Hell, the University of Chicago has a bigger endowment than the U.

As Jerry Kill said...We (coaches) aren't worth this kind of money compared to other university/faculty members. We get it only because we bring in a lot of revenue and we're really in the entertainment business. That's honest and close to the truth.

That's not close to the truth, that's exactly the truth. If professors could pack stadiums or get pay for view for their lectures they be paid millions too.

You guys are funny with money that isn't yours. But, I guess that is par for any course. "A few dollars more...", like a million. We should pay Fleck what we have to pay him in order to retain his services. If he can not sleep what with only $3.6 million dollars per year I would guess he would ask for more. I worship Coach Fleck, but we don't need to pay him more at this time.

Perhaps you didn’t hear about the blood that is being smelled?

Doesn’t Fleck make $4.6 million a year? I thought that’s what I read. Why are we still talking $3.6 million?

Why not treat a coaching staff like a CEO and management team? The CEO and upper management in firms get stock options that if they do well can become a huge part of their compensation. If they don't do well, then the options aren't worth anything. In this case, fans-in-the-stands (and the ticket price) is the equivalent of the stock price. If fans like what you're doing they'll buy tickets for the games and you'll get a slice of that revenue. If they don't come, then you lose out on that cashflow. I'm not sure we can afford to pay a coach SEC money (e.g., $7M for 6 years), but we could be a bit more innovative with the compensation package.
Because any Michigan, PSU, Tennessee etc. coach would get a bonus every year regardless of performance where PJ Fleck would make $10.75 off the fans that came to the early games during an 11-2 season.
