3. Minnesota is the Northwestern of 2018.
I can hear it now: They’re not that good. They’re lucky to be winning week after week. The advanced stats say they’re due for a fall.

The Gophers are one of just nine undefeated teams from the Power Five conferences, joining Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, LSU and Oklahoma. They will finally join the AP Top 25 this week after No. 23 Texas A&M lost for the third time.

Minnesota barely beat South Dakota State, Fresno State and Georgia Southern to start the season. But like a hurricane gaining strength, the Gophers have pounded Illinois and Nebraska in back-to-back games.

Coach P.J. Fleck had Tanner Morgan attempt just 13 passes against Nebraska, reflecting the dominance of the three-headed rushing attack: Rodney Smith, Shannon Brooks and Mo Ibrahim combined for 322 yards on 46 carries.

“I had the best view in the house,” Morgan said.

Definitely flying under the radar the way Northwestern did last year with the difference being they lost their non-conf games and then just kept winning in the Big Ten. The unfortunate part is we are probably going to need to match their 8-1 conference record from last year to win the division the way Wisconsin is playing.

Hey, it's refreshing to read an "analysis" of our team that reads as though the writer has actually put some effort into learning about the Gophers.
 

Like this take especially as NW has been known for beating some good teams in the past few years.

OSU will beat Wisconsin. 2 losses should be fine as long as Wisconsin is a win. We most likely won’t have to beat Iowa or Penn State for the Wisconsin game to be for the west title.

How about Gophs beat either Iowa or Penn State and then the badgers...just because?

Wouldn't count the Badgers out against OSU the way their D has been playing but it is going to be very interesting to see how they do on the 26th as that is the only potential loss I see on their schedule heading up to our game in the final week of the season. Good point in that we could go into that one with 2 loses with the head to head win being the decider. Of course there is a long way to go before we need to start giving any real thought to division title scenarios.

Take care of the rest of October the way we should be able to and then we can head into November and see what happens. Way it is shaking out we are the only team in the West that still has any shot of keeping the Badgers out of the title game.
 

Except 2018 Northwestern lost ALL of their non-conference games.
2019 Minnesota WON all of theirs.
