Here are a few players hoping to help the Golden Gophers snap an 11-game losing streak against the Buckeyes:

Athan Kaliakmanis, QB

Ohio State is starting a first-year quarterback in Kyle McCord who is also in his third year in the program. Minnesota is in the same boat with Kaliakmanis.

The Illinois native is completing just 52.2% of his passes for 1,582 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s coming off a career-high 292-yard performance against Purdue, but that is also the only other time he’s had at least 200 yards. He’s also not much of a runner, either.

Jordan Nubin, RB

Minnesota came into the season hoping Darius Taylor would be its workhorse, and that was playing out through the first five games. He totaled 103 carries for 591 yards and four touchdowns while twice going over 30 carries in a game. Then he suffered an injury in a win over Iowa and hasn’t played since.

Nubin has stepped in, taking 81 carries for 393 yards, while Zach Evan — 212 yards on 50 carries — serves as his No. 2.

Jah Joyner, DE

Joyner doesn’t have the most impressive raw stats with just 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, but he’s constantly been disruptive in the passing game.

His 28 pressures lead the team with nine more than anyone else, along with a 90 pass rush grade from Pro Football Focus. It’s quite the feat for someone who has only played 297 snaps this season, which is 12th on the defense and fifth among defensive linemen.

Tyler Nubin, safety

The older brother of Minnesota’s starting running back has been the best thing about Minnesota’s defense, and that’s mirrored in his 91.0 PFF grade.

Nubin is second on the team in tackles with 49 to go along with a sack, four interceptions and four pass breakups. He hasn’t spent a ton of time in coverage with only 13 targets, but only three of those have resulted in catches, for 12 yards.
