The 14 November game versus Milwaukee at Williams is the same night as the Maturi Pavilion Badger/Gopher volleyball showdown. Volleyball is scheduled for 8 PM.

Thus far I think there's only one other conflict with volleyball and it's on Saturday 23 November (Iowa (volleyball) and Montana State (basketball).

So, is the thinking that the Gopher staff is now scrambling to get into a decent tournament/hoping someone drops out of a decent tournament? Seems like this could be another problematic OOC schedule if they can't come up with something.

Addendum: That volleyball match was recently moved ONTO that date, presumably because of TV.

There are 2 dates where there's also a men's game - Tuesday 11/5 (men at 7:00, season opener) and Sunday 12/15 (men at 5:30, B10 home opener). Ugh.

Date conflicts

Well, the weekend game is an easier fix.....the women would probably get a noon time start. They then clear everyone out, do some cleaning, and then set up for the men. They've done that before, with the women always getting the short end of the stick on the earlier game time.

That November 5 game will be a real challenge. You can't do a day game and expect anyone to be able to attend during the week as your first game. With that 7 PM men's start, you can't do a game following the men. It would probably be 11 PM at best before they could tip off. Looking at Missouri State's schedule, they play at home on November 1 and they have pre-season WNIT starting on November 8. Not a lot of flexibility there, but maybe they could move the women's game to Monday, November 4?

Will be very interesting to see how this gets resolved. Not a great way to start off your season if you irritate your season ticket holders with a game time that is hard to get to.

Three years ago there was a Friday double header where Marlene's team played Georgetown at 4:00 PM and Pitino's team played St. Johns at 8:00 PM.

We'll just need to wait and see what they come up with. A Tuesday earlier start is harder for folks than a Friday game, I suspect.

And, just a pitch here from me as an election judge - if your city has an election on November 5 - don't forget to vote that day before you go the the game(s)!! Or, take the easy route and do the no excuse absentee voting.

Game times set: the opener is Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 3:00 PM.

The 49th season for the Golden Gophers gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 5 when the Golden Gophers host Missouri State at 3 p.m. in conjunction with the men's basketball game that night at 7 p.m. versus Cleveland State.

After hosting Vermont at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10, Minnesota will hold its annual Field Trip Game on Nov. 14 at noon against Milwaukee. The rest of the month includes games with Arizona State (3 p.m. on Nov. 17), Montana State (2 p.m. on Nov. 23) and Bryant (2 p.m. on Nov. 26).

Following three straight road games, the Gophers return to Minneapolis to close out their non-conference schedule with contests versus UC Davis at 1 p.m. on Dec. 15 and Lehigh at noon on Dec. 21.

The month of December then ends with the Big Ten home opener against Ohio State on New Year's Eve at 4 p.m.

As the calendar turns to January, game times were set for 7 p.m. against Northwestern on Jan. 9, Iowa on Jan. 16, Wisconsin on Jan. 22 and also Nebraska on Jan. 30.

In February, the Gophers will face Michigan at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10, while the tip-off time with Indiana on Feb. 22 will be determined later on this season.
