I feel bad about the time I waste on a fan message board once in a while. Jim's a former player, but doesn't really speak for anyone but himself and can't understand how the University might proceed in a direction he doesn't agree with. Jerry Kill and Tracy Claeys did a great job bringing us back from ruin, but the wheels came off the bus when Kill had to leave. We still got a great recruiting class last year based on kids already committing when Kill was healthy and in charge not jumping ship away from Claeys. But it sure doesn't look like Claeys was going to keep that going from a recruiting standpoint and all the good things he did are pretty much washed away when 10 kids are partying, acting poorly and possibly sexual assaulting a young girl, or at best standing by while a girl was treated poorly. Is Claeys 100% responsible for that event, of course not, but Jim Dutcher didn't molest anyone either but it happened on his watch and he ultimately paid the price for it and had the dignity to accept that blame to the point that he resigned rather than being fired.
Would Coyle have replaced Claeys anyway, probably, was it unfair to cite the fall incident as a main cause of Claeys demise, maybe. But saying we didn't need a cultural change from an atmosphere where that event happened and most players who knew about it happening did nothing is pretty closed minded. Being offended by someone emphasizing cultural change the year after that incident is laughable.
