All Things RB Jeffrey Jones Thread

Wish a hometown stud would stay for once. Just seems like it's next to impossible to get them to buy-in to our football and basketball programs.

Coach Jenkins said in an interview a few weeksago that whichever coaching staff builds the best relationship with Jeff is where he will go and he believes Jeff will be a gopher or that they have the best chance, it was I think it was at about the time of his official here, maybe during the Mr. Football ceremony

“I’m committed but I’m listening to others,” Jones said. “I just want to make sure I’m not missing any other opportunities that could help my future and help me be better.”

This is a very mature comment from Jeff, and one that's reassuring. He's happy with where things stand with Minnesota, but he's still taking his time and making sure that he isn't ignoring what could be another great opportunity.

Does Wisconsin goes hard at Jones if they miss on Mixon this weekend?

Many a hometown stud has stayed home to play for the basketball team. Football has been another story.

i think this is an error or something since i don't have ESPN insider but i could still access the article and it is clearly an insider article, not complaining though

Jones, a Minnesota commitment who ranks as the No. 14 running back, came into the game with a résumé that didn’t quite stack up with some of the others, but his stock is quickly rising after two strong practices. He’s played very much like a top-five back so far and schools have noticed.

"Florida called me yesterday on the way to the Orlando Magic game," Jones said. "Their running backs coach, Brian White, called me and said he liked my film and liked what they saw on tape. He wanted me to come take an official visit and I agreed. I know they are a great team, they are a pretty good school and they do well in the SEC every year."

In addition to Florida, Michigan State has also showed interest in the talented back. Jones is planning to take a visit to East Lansing, Mich., but does not have a specific date set up yet.

"I like the University of Minnesota," Jones said. "I can see myself there, but I’m just making sure I’m not missing out on any other opportunities that could be good for my future. I mean the distance matters some, but at the same time, if you have to travel some for your future to be set, then so be it."

From everything I've read JJ is a pretty bright and mature man. He is taking his time to find what he thinks is best for him. Only Jeff will know what is best for him. All we can hope is that the U is what he decides. I'm a fan of his regardless. Good Luck Jeff. Go Gophers.

Aren't we in a dead period where contact is prohibited? Or is that another rule SEC coaches don't need to follow?

I believe they are restricted from face to face contact, but are allowed to call once a week (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Sounds like JJ is their plan B guy as their Plan A is scheduled to announced tonight and likely to flip from UF to Miami or FSU.

Is there a school that does less with so much? A bit over 500 over the past 4 years yet their recruiting class rankings were 12th or better each year

I sure hope Jones stays committed. An offer from Florida could convince him to go there. . .

We need JJ to stay home! Let's get him locked up. I link him and Edwards in the backfield ! Could they run some two backs next year as a dimension. Some screen passes to get these guys open in the field ! Ragnow and our young line could be special!

I will be surprised if he sticks with the gophers unfortunately. Just another great MN kid likely to go elsewhere. Hope he stays but this sometimes becomes a ground hog day event for gophers fans. I am assuming he will sign with Florida and will be pleasantly surprised if he stays.

Hometown hero. We need some of our former players like Tyrone Carter to sell him on Mpls for life! Tyrone was from Florida and is making his home here!

Cook has flipped to FSU. If Jones is now Florida's #1 target I'm sure they'll put on the full court press now.

I don't know about you, but I love it when I'm someone's back up plan! WhooHoo! That hot girl I've been chasing said that if she can't find someone better she'll let me know!! WhooHoo! I'll blow off that average girl who's been with me since the beginning and is a sure thing for a chance to be someone's back up! Life doesn't get any better than that! WhooHoo!

I'd like to see pictures of the hot and average girls before picking a side here.

What bothers me about this situation im sure others are bothered too, but why when Minnesota heavily recruits a guy late in recruiting theres no chance because it started late. Watch Florida do it with JJ. Im referencing Reid Travis when I state my annoyance btw. Anyways im sick of that excuse if JJ flips. Someone just state the truth Minnesota is the red headed step child!

How is Reid Travis relevant?

Good running backs are not hard to find. If Jones flips the Gophers will be fine with Edwards and whoever they sign this year. I am not losing any sleep if goes elsewhere.

Im just stating if Florida comes in late and flips Jones I don't want to hear the excuse anymore from people I follow on twitter bout Minnesota came in too late to sign a high recruit(when they try). A la Travis with Pitino. People should just state the truth Minnesota isn't a stud program. Yet!

i disagree, if i could have one top 100 player for the gophers at any position it would be running back, our backs may be productive with our O-line but they really can't get much once they get to the second level, Jeff is the difference between us having a good offense and an elite offense, he is the most MN recruit in at least the last 15 years

i'm getting a little nervous now with the Dalvin Cook flip and noe htey don't have a single RB commit, hopefully the Florida coaches fail to develop a good relationship with him which will be the deciding factor, right now they are really the only school that worries me, zero chance he goes to MSU or Mizzou and Iowa State doesn't worry me either
