his rivals page indicates he committed to us today!

You can't teach size like that! Whoa big boy! Rivals says his only other offer is South Alabama.

If that height and weight is legit he has to be one if not the biggest kickers in all of football at any level. That being said I could give a crap how big or small he is if he can get the ball in the EZ on kickoffs and make his field goals. Welcome on board.

A great get for special teams!

With our kicking issues over the last few years.....we should recruit a couple kickers a year.

He is the 7th ranked kicker and 8th ranked punter per Kohl's Kicking.
You can check out his video here: http://kohlskicking.com/profile/ryan-santoso/6310/
Welcome to the University of Minnesota Ryan! SKI-U-MAH!!!

Buck

Based on the video and the writeup I would bet he is being recruited as a kicker only. If he has the mental ability to handle the increased speed and pressure of the college game he could be a good one because he clearly seems to have the leg strength needed.

Great news. I have no problem using a scholly on a good kicking prospect, especially if he can also punt.

With the kicking game beings so important in fb nowadays, I agree with your sentiments.

There are no roughing the kicker penalties on Santoso, he roughs the potential blocker.

As an UA All-American and highly rated by Kohl's Kicking, what explains the lack of offers/interest?

My guess is that a lot of coaches don't offer scholarships to punters, kickers, and long snappers.

Actually, Rivals shows quite a few commits (I was surprised):

After reading the list that Nate posted, it's pretty clear that this conversation could easily take place:

Minnesota to the rest of college football: "Our kicker can beat up your kicker."

Go Gophers!!

I'd watch out for the Aussie lad going to Rutgers

Maybe though I might put my money on the 6'7" 242 lbs kid committed to Rutgers from Australia. Plus there are probably some scrappers among the little guys that could out quick our guy and use his size against him.

I love it when somebody proves a strongly held GopherHole belief wrong even when it is one of my own. Maybe that is why the Gophers will have three K/P on scholarships next year. That is right, three, i.e Chris Hawthorne (K), Dan Orseski (P), and Ryan Santoso (K/P). Let's hope that three is the lucky charm. Welcome aboard Ryan! Thanks Nate.

I would be surprised if orseske is back next year.

I certainly don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves since he has a scholarship now. I doubt it that he is going to get offer from another school for a scholarship.
