Fair to say that a lot has changed since 1960...

FYI - in 1960 the Gophers (#3) faced off against Iowa (#1) at Memorial Stadium in the biggest game in 20 years for the maroon and gold, both teams 6-0. Many thought that this past weekend's PSU - MN game was the biggest since this 1960 game. It was close at half, but MN was definitely the better team in the final two quarters and won 27-10. Huge. The following weekend they played an unranked Purdue team at home and lost 23-14. This is what I am afraid of this weekend - yuk

Due to a couple other upsets across the country, they still managed to get the #1 ranking back by the end of conference play. Bowl games at that point were never factored into the final AP/UPI standings until the 70's and Minnesota was declared the national champion. Went on to lose the Rose Bowl to #6 rated Washington 17-7.
